Phillip's crosshairs followed the advancing socialists. Any minute now they would stop. The Irishmen after all had noticed them and were watching them. In the next few minutes, Phillip was pretty sure he'd pull the trigger. He couldn't wait.
Dennis and Alistair were at the Church's main entrance with the Maxim gun. Alistair being spotter and reloader was warily monitoring the outside through some gaps in the boards and debris thrown up against the doors and windows. Dennis on the other hand was looking around the church. It was a tidy building with two stories with a spindly steeple that shot up another three stories from the rest of the building. The interior was of a drab stone, the building was a relic from midieval times, but in the last century there had been several wooden expansions. The effect on the building's interior was a dark and drab appearence, well except for some stained glass windows whose lower parts were barricaded. Taking in the scene he asked Alistair, "Do you think it is right that we should spill blood on this hallowed ground." He knew that the frontal approach to the church that the Maxim Gun faced contained a statue of Saint Wilfrith. In the rear on the sides and rear however there was a small cemetery that encircled the church's rear quarter. The entire structure and the cemetery were surrounded by a spear top fence with a solid concrete base. Father Fulton said he specifically chose this location because it would be impossible to attack it without storming the locked front gate or blowing up one of the other sections. There was also the choice of mounting the fence but doing so would make anyone an excellent target. Alistair replied, "Aye, it is a shame that such acts of sin will be comitted here. But, it is for the right cause." "Will god see it that way?" "Dennis only the lord knows that."
Jim Relis and Ron Davis were assigned to assist the two marksmen on the second floor and Phillip in the steeple. They were both new recruits while the other three men on the upper stories were veterans of the Great War. After spending time in the trenches those men were not only grizzled veterans but also starved of luxuries. When presented with Jim and Ron they turned the pair effectively into servants. In a moment of respite the two met at a second story pew overlooking the main hall. "Jim you know what that bloody Hotmayer had me do?" "What?" "He said, I've been sit'in here for a while and now I gotta ta go to the John. And I say fine. Well he tells me to finds a bucket and I does that. I bring it to'im and he tells me to hold it under his hind quarter. Then he tells me to stay still while he drops his trousers n' drops his stool in the pail. It was grody to say the least. Bloody awful!" "Aye those chaps are a bunch'a bugbears if you ask me. I swear if we get out of this Church I'll give'em a good wallop'in." "I wish." Doley suddenly hissed out, "Hey yous. Shut yours traps and get over here Ronny there's a bug fly'in round here and I'll wallop ya if'en you don't kill it." "See-" "Get over here boy." "Aye."
Brody, John, and Robert were patrolling the lower floors. As Major Fulton passed Brody stopped to talk to him. "Father do you know what I was before the war?" "Major-" "Yes, yes Major what do you think I was?" "Which war." "The Great War." "I'm not sure what did you do." "Well you see these guns John, Robert, and I have?" "Yes, they're Martini-Henrys the main gun of our military before the Great War." "It's an amazing gun, y'see the way we obtained them was because we use to be guides in Africa's interior." "Really?" "Yes sir, I myself have killed ten lions with this gun and many other strange creatures of the interior." "That's interesting. How did you end up coming back?" "I joined up with the army and fought against the germans in Namibia thats where I met John and Robert. After the war we felt like returning to the home country to see what she looked like. Turns out we found some other shes too and me and the boys went and got ourselves married. Unfortunately when the civil war broke out we were caught in the way of the advancing Soviet. Our families fled but we got caught in a bottleneck and soviet warplanes started strafing it. John is the only one who still has his wife..." "I'm sorry and that's why you joined the military?" "Yes, I was originally in the Georgian military before being transferred. I managed to get the rest of the boys with me. We promised each other the Soviets would feel the pain we feel." "Remeber, you should avoid letting veangence-" "Become our driving force? Yes, it is a terrible thing. But, in Namibia we did some awful things. We are resigned to our fate and will make sure the Soviets get their final reward as soon as possible."
