I think the problem is that you aren't role playing, you're playing make-believe. If you are given parameters for the role (such as being set in the old west), you don't just decide how you would like things to be and act the way you would under those circumstances; you look at the circumstances given, and act the way you would if you were a person who lived there/then.
When you start bringing in things from outside the parameters that have been set, you're forcing your own rp on anyone else who may be choosing to rp the way things were meant to be.
I'll drop the issue now since you already have enough people bugging you about other things that I don't really care much about.
