Pssh. Obama is nothing special, but each time he speaks people are like "wooh clap clap he is just A-MAZING!"
People are still talking about him. Can't they talk about something more important then his girls getting a dog, like the fact we're destroying our enviroment and millions of people are dying everyday from starvation, wars etc?

Oh and George Bush=Epic fail

and by what action do you judge your statement kanishka? he really hasent done anything yet

Hmmmm...I appreciate that it is very early days, and to that extent you are right. Furthermore, whilst as a socialist (of sorts) I cannot deny the fact that the US electing a black president is a genuinely great thing to have done. I also know that he is from a fairly privileged background and in my little red book, class is more important than race as a determinant of the lengths Obama will go in bringing about real reform. BUT (you knew it was coming) lets examine what he hasn't done since taking up the presidency;

* Starting an illiegal and unjust war, resulting in the deaths of tens of thousands of innocent civilians, as well as the hundreds of young American men and women who were sent out there (often ill-equipped - not that I am advocating increasives in military spending)

* Stupidly making a link between Bin Laden and Sadam :eek:hmy:

* Getting it constantly wrong on the internantional stage and declaring a so-called "war on terror" (and ultimately bringing about a more terrifying world

* Stitching-up post war reconstruction contracts to his buddies

* Jump-in with protectionism in the current economic crisis and announce whole-sale embargoes on foreign products (particularly steel - remember?). Although there have been some worrying noises being made in Obama's asministration

* Announcing huge tax cuts for the wealthiest in America :blink:

* Allocating the smallest sums for education (and in fact freezing funding on many much-needed education projects) and instuting a massively over-bloated Medicare scheme which oftern fails to deliver even the most basic of healthcare to the poorest

* Abandoning Kyoto agreements

* Bringing in legislation that in fact contributes to environmental disasters

So, at least Obama hasn't done any of the above as yet. However, clearly time will tell, but I personally am glad that Bush has gone (even though I am British) and I place some hope in the new president. But, as long as capitalism is the economic and political system that underpins the world, I guess that not much will ever change...

Whilst both Marx and Lenin studied theology in their youth, I can't quite remember having read that they dressed up as a Santa at Xmas. Although to be honest Marx would have made a great Father Xmas.

Just remember that it was Marx that said;

"Owners of capital will stimulate working class to buy more and more of expensive goods, houses and technology, pushing them to take more and more expensive credits, until their debt becomes unbearable. The unpaid debt will lead to bankruptcy of banks, which will have to be nationalized, and State will have to take the road which will eventually lead to communism"

Sound familiar?

People can't beleive that something that makes sense is coming from the president.

You have to be some sort of robotic ninja to make it through the system, all the way to president and still have your common sense intact.

Speaking with the experience of someone who lived through the prime ministership of Bush's mini-me, John Howard, the great joy will wain. It is really just relief. And then nothing much will change except things like those you listed won't be happening and they will no longer have to listen to the ravings of ideologues and worry about what mess they will get into next.

It isn't that Obama is the bees' knees... He just isn't as bad as what came before. Although, since Howard left, we did ratify Kyoto and say sorry to the aboriginals. It isn't much, but it is two good things after 9 years of bad.

The most hilarious thing is that all of the right wing morons who screamed that criticism of George W. Bush was treason, because we were a country at war, are now criticizing Obama...Yet, we're still at war...So the right wing morons are now the traitors.

What's still funny is that the majority of the right wing idiots don't even understand this.

Neither has whoever Saddam Hussein's replacement is...But George W. Bush sure had a lot of faith in whatever that person would or would not do.

Obama is not any different than any other president. He has so far only tried to further his own agendas. While the stimulus bill he passed may have a good effect initially,it will end up being a bad thing. Think about how can you give people butt loads of money that doesn't exist. So far he has not stuck to any of the promises he had made during the elections. The bill he passed was full of earmarks for things like golf courses, water parks, surfing, and std education but most people don't know this because the bill was not fully disclosed to the people like he had also promised. If you think that cheney did everything for bush it is no different for obama because pelozi and reid are doing everything for obama. And the idea that we need to do something about the environment is crap. Global warming is FAKE. We have only been recording temperatures for about 120 years and the earth has been here for millions of years. If you actually look at trends for temperatures the earth has had stable or dropping temperatures since 2000. Scientist just this week admitted to making a mistake on estimating polar ice and its melting due to something they have dubbed as Sensor Drift.

Well, this is true. But as yet, whatever Obama raves about isn't as newsworthy over here as the ravings of the last guy who punctuated his insanity with bombs. ;)

well the reason it isent as news worthy is because for some reason people are mistakeing Obama for God.

Heres an interesting stat about the stimulus package. if you were to spend 1 Mil a year since Jesus's birth it wouldent add up to the amount in the bill.Never mind the fact the passage of the bill has so far had a negative effect on the economy .

Um, the reason it isn't newsworthy outside of the US really is not because we (ie;rest of the world) mistakes Obama for god. He just has to do something particularly noteworthy to rate more than a brief mention. We have our own stimulus packages, as do a whole heap of other nations. Yours doesn't especiailly stand out from the crowd.

(Although, I have seen American "World News" programs and each time, they have contained about 3 minutes of coverage on things that actually happened outside of US borders. So if that is typical, I can see why you might think you were the centre of the universe. ;) )
