Here's another thing that points towards Yahtzee over Liar's Dice. In Yahtzee, you throw the dice in the open as shown, in Liar's Dice you don't, you keep them hidden.

The only other game I can think of right now that uses 5 black and white dice is poker dice. Yahtzee would have been my guess too.
