An example of a passage that has "all the subtly(sic) and insight of slope-browed simians":
For people with such vehement and vocal political opinions, you (all of you) seem to universally discuss the matter with all the subtly and insight of slope-browed simians. Democratic Socialism, a direct offshoot of classical Socialism historically is held by many to have been artificially constructed as an indoctrination tool to lead the liberally inclined down a slippery sloap into outright Socialism (thus sort of negating the need to strictly differentiate between the two) -and it is not a conservative viewpoint either but is, for better or worse, the result of Cold War era scholarship which may also taint the theory for some. So, Virginia's apparent 'confusing' the practical application of the movement or its intent may not be born simply out of ignorance (as presumed) but perhaps a general disdain to engage in a futile argument against the arrogance of her ideological adversaries (as only arrogance compels one to accept that their own beliefs are so completely justified that dissent can only stem from stupidity).
1. There is no such thing as "classical socialism". Socialism is and always has been part of a
broad range of political philosophies, many of which are
extremely opposed to each other.
2. Therefore, democratic socialism can only be one branch amongst many and not simply an indoctrination tool for one thing. If it has been used in that way, it is a problem with whichever branch abuses it, not with the thing itself.
3. If there is any evidence of the impact of Cold War "scholarship" (I use the term loosely), it is here in your conflation of socialism and communism, which are
not at all the same thing.
4. If there is any ideological dogma, it can be found here in that conflation, which is entirely based on the propaganda of the (stupid) ideological wars of the previous century.
5. If only arrogance compels one to accept that their own beliefs are so completely justified that dissent can only stem from stupidity, I think you have just called yourself arrogant.
