Worker or Dueler

The soldier appears to be a good dueler since i only duel once a day. I am still new to the game so i'm still not sure whether the ranged or melee weapons are best so I am going for range atm. Does the 50% boost on tactics the soldier gets for duels help alot cause from what i've read in the help section it should.

Tactics is helpful if you are attacked.
The attacker's skill points on appearance and the defender's skill points tactics are compared and the difference affects the skill points on aim. Don't know how much though.
