I just ignore the % symbol, personally. Don't know what it means exactly, so I just compare the numbers between jobs and leave it at that. And yes, there's a big randomness factor!

I can calculate roughly within a $ or two how much I will make on a job and how many experience points I am going to get when done.

So how do you do that, then? They certainly look random to me. Identical motivation and labor points --> widely varying results on everything but town construction, in my experience, at least as far as I've checked.My job results are never random.
