In many ancient cultures, there were only four elements that were considered part of the world. These were air, water, fire, and earth. They believed that these elements made up all that existed. However, modern chemists believe they have sufficiently disproved this theory. The knowledge of the ancients is now considered to be nothing more than a fancy.................
The year is now 2050. Pollution is at a record high, and no major technological advancements have been made. This is an Earth in major trouble. Overpopulation, smog, streets littered with garbage, very little clean drinking water...these are now the norm. The world is not expected to live much longer, and many people are merely waiting for the end.
From the Mariana Trench came a few dribbles of pure, clean water...these specks of water congealed until a small fish made entirely from water began swimming rapidly toward the U.S.
From the Stromboli Volcano in the midst of yet another eruption came a few embers burning white-hot. These embers combined, forming a small fire slug. This slug sprouted small wings, and it flew toward the U.S.
In the Sahara desert, a sarcophagus burst open, letting a few dribbles of sand come forth. It formed a scorpion (with wings) and it too, headed toward the U.S.
Atop Mt. Everest, the wind concentrated and formed a small bird, which flew toward the U.S.
New York City: 2:03 PM
A manhole burst open as water burst forth with more power than a fire hydrant. This spread, cracking the street. The plumbing of the city all exploded, adding to the torrent of water. A hurricane force wind seemed to be combating this water, and they tore the city apart from their struggles. Soon, the entire city lay in ruin. The water formed large tentacles, which wrapped around an unseen object and squeezed. A shriek of fury, and the wind stopped. The water collapsed...it's power source withdrawn, chasing it's escaping prey.
Washington D.C.: 4:13 PM
Fire burst from the Lincoln Memorial as the entire structure collapsed. The earth itself heaved, obliterating the White House, killing the President. A massive monster of fire, and a golem of earth began to struggle for control, trampling all under their feet. After the entire city was completely destroyed, the golem seemed to gain the upper hand. It began to smother the fire, forcing the fire to reform into a bat, which flew away, shrieking. The earth rose up around the golem, and when the earth returned to normal, the golem was gone.
The ancient elements are awake. They are mad with grief over what has happened to their planet, and they blame each other for the decline of Earth. It is obvious if they continue to fight, they will destroy the Earth as it is known today. You, as a human, have several possible paths.
1. Survive. This world is dangerous...just living in it is going to be a challenge. You think nothing else matters if you live.
2. Calm the elements. You believe that the world will only know true peace once more when the fighting is done, and that the elements should help return the Earth to beauty.
3. Control the elements. There is a well-known piece of lore that the right item, combined with the right words, will control one of the elements (4 word combinations, 4 items, one for each element). You, for either selfish or selfless purposes, wish to gain control over one of these primeval forces of nature.
4. Other (specify)
NOTE: I am going to play the four elements (NPCs) and I reserve the right to move the story along if someone doesn't post after a long time when they need to.

P.S. For normal advancements/happenings, I'll type in black. When I'm playing as an element, I'll use the color most commonly associated with the element in question (red, blue, brown, and green for fire, water, earth, and air, respectively)
