Should choosing your baby's gender be allowed? ‎

From my point of view I don't think it should be allowed because there would be an unbalanced proportion between the two sexes.

No it should not be allowed....because it should go natural.Tempering with mother nature has lots of disadvantages...

Huh? Most husbands favorite girls because they are:1. Pretty
2. Smart
3. Even if they are not smart, their husbands can still provide them with everything
4. Protected
5. Gives birth
6. If divorce, the child would most likely chose his or her mother.

But some still favorite boys, maybe it should be allowed..

A female cockatoo would also fit all of the above criteria.

Uhm, is there actualy a way to influence the babies gender? Or are you talking about aborting if you don't "like" the gender?

There are designer babies!

You can chose the child's IQ, height, personally looks, handsome or pretty, gender and more!
But this has a massive influence on the future of the child. If he has an IQ of 145, he may start to lose his IQ in adulthood, to 120 and the height may decrease when he is older.

No, the child is smart and unhappy but then he gets dumb and his life is all better :)

What a lot of twaddle, you must have been reading too many trashy womens magazines.

Sorry to burst your bubble but its not at all the case, generally men ( being a husband is irrelevant ) would and do usually wish for a son and always have simply to carry on the bloodline.

You have some pretty weird reasoning there, so much so it could only have been dreamed up by a woman. Male has always been preferred over female where the man is concerned in nearly every culture throughout history.

Lets have a look at them shall we ?

1 Pretty has nothing to do with it men dont usually find babies attractive and if a girl is believe me the father will worry more about whos seeing his daughter than how pretty she is,a good looking daughter to a father is more of a problem than it is a boon trust me.
2 Nothing to do with it, theres no guarantee your child will be smart no matter the sex, most depends on opportunities given to the child not its gender.
3 What ? where did you get the idea men are an atm machine from ? provide for, if thats what you mean extends to the child first the woman who expects a silver spoon whilst doing nothing is living in the past with modern man imo
4 Protected ?? what is this an endangered species ?
5 Giving birth is a risk every time ,to carry on the mans line is seen as the boys role not the girls, always has been.
6 If divorce the mother nearly always gets custody regardless and has nothing to do with what sex a child is, let alone anything to do with being a man and where do you suppose thats a benefit or attractive to a man ?

Ask most men before they have had any children and they will tell you its a boy they usually want first as there is simply far more they can identify with by also being male and things they can teach them.

Should choice be allowed ? sure why not its no biggie either way if you take away the usual god squad panic it makes sense. Why would you not wish to be able to choose a girl if youd already had 3 boys and wanted a daughter ? far better to have 1 boy and 1 girl you can support than 4 boys and still trying for a daughter. Not saying choice wont cause problems due to cultures, religions etc but the actual ability to choose seems pretty logical and useful to me.

I don't think choosing gender on a large scale would be a good idea. There are places in India where though gender selective abortion has taken place, and the majority of the population is male. There are not many partners available for them. The world could become one huge sausage fest.

Meh, I want two males and one female to go please. Can you toss in a small fry with that?

Anyone who's familiar with David Reimer's case will know past evidence shows that biology (genes and hormones) overrides rearing of a child. It also led to him and his identical twin committing suicide due to the trauma it caused them and their family.

There was a malfunction with the circumcision procedure and he had his penis burnt off as a baby - Dr Money (famous psychologist at the time who had a lot of experience with sex change patients etc) convinced David's parents to rear him as a girl since he believed children acquire gender through learning and how they're reared. They also used his twin brother as a control so they could compare the effects of biology and rearing.

To cut a long story short, David grew up very confused and always felt he was a boy. He was heavily bullied at school and he didn't understand what was wrong with him. Many years later his parents told him and his brother separately the truth. Initially David was relieved as it explained why he felt the way he did, and didn't blame his parents as they'd only tried to do what's best for him. However after some time, both twins took the news badly and had been traumatised from Dr Money's unethical and inappropriate sessions over the years. The twin brother died of a drug overdose (supposedly suicide) and David shot himself in the head.

If anyone's interested on the whole story properly explained here's the link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUTcwqR4Q4Y

It concludes with "Nature, as far as gender identity is concerned, cannot be overriden by nurture."

IMO lying to a child is ALWAYS a bad idea. Circumcision at birth is not such a great idea either... What a sad story.
