Divided Russia

Squads A and B joined, having secured most of the southern half of the outpost.
Sokolov saw the Nationalists trying to secure heavier weapons, and said
"Two can play at this game!"
The Socialists released a deadly volley of grenades, and saw
gore and shrapnel erupt in front of them. They followed up by spraying bullets in the enemy's
direction, in attempt to cut down as many of them as possible.

Sokolov and one of his men crept around a building, and flanked the
Nationalists with a burst of fire before dashing back into cover.
They then noticed the vehicles coming for them...

"Fall back!", Sokolov commanded. "I have an idea..."
Sokolov lobbed a grenade at a fuel tank that an enemy BRDM-3.
The grenade detonated, igniting the gas and engulfing the vehicle in flames.

While the rest of the Socialists retreated to find means of stopping the
Nationalist counterattack, Sokolov burst into an armory, which was vacant
of Nationalist guards, since they were either fighting or dead. His eyes
darted about the room, until something caught his eye.
"Jackpot!", he exclaimed.

He picked up an RPG-29, capable of penetrating a T-90's armor. He loaded it,
and aimed it out a window at a BMP-1's treads. It blew the tread right off,
disabling the vehicle. He grabbed more shells, and continued pounding at the
encroaching vehicles. Meanwhile, the remaining Socialists made similar
discoveries, and began arming themselves with antitank weapons.

"We aren't dead yet", a Socialist remarked.

The Socialists were throwing grenades at the defenders, but only a few who were outside vehicles were killed, luckily, so most of the defenders made it without much more than cracked winshields. But, of course, the Socialists were determined to fight on, finding a way to disable a BRDM-3, due to a careless fuel tank cover that was left open, but, they were still pushing forward, driving the Socialists out of the depot, or at least seemingly driving them out.

Of course, the Socialists had to find the RPG-29s, and started firing at the vehicles, some missing, and some hitting. The first rounds were the PG-29V anti-tank rounds, and so were able to easily take out the vehicles. But, after a few rounds of these, there was a switch, most of the projectiles hitting the vehicles were exploding, and making a beautiful explosion, but weren't doing much damage. Why? Well, because, most of the rounds that were stored at the depot were the TBG-29V anti-personnel rounds, not designed to take out vehicles. Sure, a few were still the PG-29V's, but most of them were practically harmless. "We got them now! We'er gonna steamroll those commies!" Again, irony lost in the moment, but in some cases, the expression was literal enough, a few of the Socialists did in fact get run over by the vehicles. But most were gunned down, and the defenders slowly started making more progress toward the south end of the depot.

johann, I don't get the irony either. What is it?

Sokolov peered out the window, and saw the convoy attacking his comrades.
Although he himself had personally decommissioned several of them, with
the other Socialists taking out more, the Nationalists still had a few vehicles
encroaching on his comrades, who were running out of AT ammo.
"I have to think of another plan", Sokolov thought.
So he did.

His eyes darted about the room, searching for something that could better
counter the enemy. He noticed that there were several RPG-7s and an
abundance of ammo.
"Not as much punch", he thought, "but better than nothing."

He loaded one, and aimed at a remaining vehicle's treads. They were within
a very easy distance for an RPG-7, so his aim was spot on, and he disabled
the vehicle with a single hot to the treads. He repeated the process with
another vehicle, this time missing with the first round, forcing him to take
another shot. However, this second shot was also a critical hit.

By this time, only 3 Nationalist vehicles were unscathed, a pair of BMP-1s
and an MT-LB. Sokolov continued firing upon them with his RPG-7, knocking
out one of the BMP-1s. He then noticed that the NAtionalists were bailing out
of the disabled vehicles, so Sokolov picked up his AK-74 and picked them off
one by one as they crawled out of the hatches.

The Socialists managed to blow off the MT-LB's treads with a volley of
grenades, leaving but the BMP-1. One Socialist, inspired by the proximity
of the vehicles, had an idea. He snuck up behind the BMP-1, and jumped on it.
He pried the hatch open, dropped a grenade inside, and slammed it shut.
He jumped off, and an explosion was heard, coming from inside the vehicle.
It veered off and crashed into a building.

The time on Sokolov's watch was 0351 hours. The evac team would be arriving shortly.
They set about picking off survivors and rigging supply
depots with demolition charges. They heard helicopter rotors in the distance,
and sure enough, at 0358 hours, two Mi-8s with Socialist markings came
into view. One dropped another squad of 12 men, and the other landed to
be loaded with the wounded.

The reinforcements kept good cover over the others, occasionally gunning
down one of the few Nationalists who did not board a vehicle. They loaded
all the supplies they could carry into the Mi-8s, and rigged the rest to blow.

Sokolov sprinted out through the gate, and found Afansi just where he had
left him. "Didn't think I'd just leave you, did you?", Sokolov said, helping Afansi back to the helicopters.

With all the materials and casualties loaded, they took off, watching the
enemy's supplies explode beneath them.

Jarkov aimed his AK-47 at the Mi-8 that was being loaded with wounded. He cut down several troops guarding it.He then lobbed a grenade at it and disabling the engine forcing the re-inforcements to get more support.

"When will we get help?" Jarkov's comrade exclaimed."In due time my son, in due time" the squads seargent softly said.A RPG-7 harmlessly hit the ground before the troops and Jarkov sprinted towards cover firing wildly preventing himself being killed. He then lobbed another grenade and saw two socialists fall and then another injured.

Another squad came in from the other side and cut down some enemy troopers in the houses and elimanated a squadron that were preventing another squad to move on.A missile blew into the house infront of the wall Jarkov was hiding behind and he was momentarily stunned by the blast."Where'd that come from?" Jarkov shouted over the roar of gun fire.

The Mi-8s headed back to base. Sokolov sat in one with most of the survivors and the
supplies. He radioed the other, which was carrying the casualties:
"Sokolov here, how may casualties do you count? Over."
"Gavlik responding, there's barely enough room to fit them all. Maybe we should've
brought another chopper. Anyway, let me check... I count 9 wounded and 5 dead. Over.
"
"That's more than half our initial force. Oh well, best hopes to them. Over and out."

Sokolov hung up, and somberly pondered the casualties. Just three hours previously,
they were all unscathed, and he had no idea who would live and who would die.
Oh well, it was all for a worthy cause... or so he hoped.

The Mi-8s landed back at the Socialist base and began to unload. Sokolov, while not
normally squeamish, averted his eyes from the casualties. He went back to the
barracks, and flopped down on a cot. He instantly fell into a dreamless sleep.
What don't you like about it, Regal? Please, do tell.

Afansi regained his strength, he heard wounded comrades screaming for help inside the compound, then he heard the choppers starting " Comrades! " Afansi shouted to the men who were just now leaving the rallly point. " Comrades stop! " Afansi shouted again.

(thealex, we're back at the base already.)

Sokolov woke the next morning, feeling refreshed. There was still some time left before
roll call, so he decided to take a walk and get some fresh air. While he was out,
he spied a medic by the name of Khitrovo. Sokolov addressed him:
"Good morning, comrade Khitrovo. Is there any word on comrade Afansi?"
Khitrovo responded; "He's doing marvelously. He should be combat-ready soon."
"Great to hear", Sokolov said. "Roll call's in a few minutes, I'll be on my way."

The rest of the day proceeded normally until just after noon, when Sokolov's company
was summoned to the briefing room.

Afansi was waking up, he looked around him with a dazed and confused look on his face, he didn't know how he had gotten to the hospital, but thanked god that he did.

Jarkov moved slowly into the ruins of a home of a forgotten dead family. He let his AK-47 drop to his side and he then looked around the ruins."This war has to stop!" Jarkov growled to his comrades as he walked back out to the street and saw the Nationalist Tanks coming down the street. He saw Nationalist troops on the side of the road."Finnaly!" Jarkov said silently to himself. He then joined in the cheering with his fellow soldiers.

"HURRAH!" Jarkov shouted with many others as they charged at the Socialist positions.

as night fell, a socialist artillery bombardment began. all through the night, shells thudded into the ground all around ivan's out post, he could hardly get any sleep, but, finally, in the following morning, the bombardment lifted. but as it stopped, ivan and his men could see enemy infantry massing to the north...

Jarkov waited with other soldiers and listened to Colonel Makarov.
"Today, we storm the Socialist base!"
"Do not let a single Socialist troops live!"
"No one survives this except us!"
"CHARGE!"
"HURRAH!" Jarkov shouted as he charged towards the base.He heard the artillery firing earlier and now he saw the devastation it had created.

as the socialist infantry began a charge towards ivan and his men, ivan opened up with an MG, mowing down the first line of men. the socialists kept on coming, oblivious to the sea of dead bodies in front of them.

Sokolov and his company were sitting in the briefing room, listening to all the boring
details of the next mission. He heard gunfire outside, and an alarm went off. All available
men were summoned. Sokolov grabbed his AK-74.
"Such poor manners of these Nationalists", Sokolov said. "Showing up uninvited like this."

The men burst out, throwing a barrage of fire at the encroaching Nationalists, cutting
them down rapidly. Every man capable of holding a rifle had been alerted, and they
were all about, manning MG nests and grabbing heavy weapons. Vehicle crews poured
into their tanks and APCs, and engaged the attackers. Several gunships took off, and
began pounding at the Nationalists from the air. The men charging at the Nationalists
knew their action was futile, and they fell back and took defensive positions.

eventually the tide of socialist infantry stopped and ivan and his men were called to back up a rapidly failing offensive a few miles from the outpost.

Afansi heard the sirens, he knew what they ment, he got up and reached for his gun, as he did, a fellow comrade, the medic who had treated him demanded he sat back down, Afansi refused knocking him out of the way and rushed to the rooftops." Damnit there must be atleast two platoons here." Afansi growled to himself. He was one of few snipers in medical conditon, so he fired a few shots from his sidearm to make sure his comrades knew who was on their roof, he then found a safer position on the roof and began lining up shots on the nationalist pigs aproaching him.
