JP (from here on out I'm calling Jean-Paul JP) arrived, out of breath and asked Max who was being chased, "I don't know." He replied truthfully, "But whoever they are, they were getting chased by something else, and it's our duty to help them." The was something out there though, and it was coming. That should have scared Max. That should have, but it really didn't for some reason. His breathing was calm, and his body was now in fight mode, prepared to defend the bunker, to death if necessary.

Clara and Caitlyn were running for their lives. Caitlyn was continuing to encourage the seamstress to run. Clara could see Mouse ahead, so she knew Mouse was safe. It occurred to Clara to stop, and let whatever it was catch her, but she didn't slow. She was carrying food for the bunker, and they needed the food desperately. Clara didn't value her own life, but did care about the people within the small community. They were almost there now, and she shifted the basket of vegetables slightly as her fingers were beginning to cramp.

Bharat leant against the low concrete wall staring out into the fog; the baseball bat leaning beside him close to hand should he need it, not that he ever did need it but you never knew when you would need a good sturdy piece of wood to rely on. The young Indian man didn't mind sentry duty, it was peaceful and didn't require much thought all you had to do was keep your eyes open and not go to sleep.
It was as he was beginning to suspect that it would be another quiet day when Max came running over to him saying somebody was being chased by something "By what? who was being chased?" he asks suddenly alarmed, he had never had to deal with anything before all he'd ever had to do was keep an eye on things quietly wishing that something would happen and now that something was happening he didn't know what to do. Ok calm down Bharat just think it through...what did uncle Karim do when those guys made trouble at the restaurant "I'll go and find Finnegan...and the Colonel" he tacked on the end hurriedly, the old man was still in charge but it was the one eyed Irishman that dealt with any security issues these days or to be more precise killing things. Leaving the other two men behind Bharat turns and sprints down the concrete stairs in search of help.

The bunker was in sight, and already she could see people gathered around the stairs causing her heart to lift, they would be ok, they wouldn't be torn apart "Hey Amigo's, there’s two of them behind us!" she shouts at the top of her lungs, lungs that already felt fit to burst from all this exertion. Risking another glance she realises that there would be no way that Finnegan and his crew would be able to get up here in time; the ghouls already perilously close to the other two women, a single stumble more than enough to spell their doom.

They hadn’t all followed him, he could tell from the heavy footsteps behind him. Maybe one or two had taken his bait, but he hadn’t successfully distracted all of them like he had wanted to. He reached the slide and turned around, seeing two of the diseased right on his tail. At least he was able to thin the herd a bit, Patrick thought to himself as he climbed the slide’s ladder. At barely over 10 feet, the aluminium and steel slide was a holdback from when the margin of safety was slightly smaller in the name of fun. This slide was meant to be slippery and the ladder was as steep as possible to save money on the frame. New, the slide must have set the park builders back at least £1000. After the war, this thing should have been torn up and recycled. Luckily for Patrick, it was still here. He had barely gotten to the top before the two diseased had gotten to his location. Now, the plan was to wait for them to climb up, one at a time, and take them out individually, where their viciousness had less of a chance of striking true.

DeletedUser28032

The creatures didn't slow; either too stupid or too eager to try and climb the ladder they instead crashed into it, rocking its frame atop of which Patrick was stood and having been designed for children the rail was just a little too low for comfort.
Assuming that their prey hadn't toppled from atop of its perch the ghouls would slowly circle the slide; hissing and snarling for several minutes before making another assault. One would begin ascending the narrow metal steps whilst the other would instead simply make a leap for the top of the slide. It would never reach the top but its subsequent crash into the slides frame would cause it to violently rock once again as the ghoul meanwhile fell into a heap at its foot, though if Patrick held any hope that the creature had hurt or even killed itself performing the stunt he would be sadly mistaken as it once again pulled itself onto its feet. Ghouls if nothing else were resilient that much was clear

"That Finnegan and his gang of misfits..." Nelx groaned, before continuing in a sarcastic tone, "Life here would be oh so much easier without troublesome rats living around the place..." Nelx gave the older woman a quizzical glance, before continuing in the same tone, "What about you? How are you Sally, and what can I do to be of service in this exquisite establishment?" By her tone, Nelx appeared to have forgotten her earlier encounter with Finnegan, but in fact, her insides still turned in an angry circle, containing thoughts of revenge... She liked Sally, but she really wasn't sure whether Sally liked her in return... Who was to know?

It lay twisted and forgotten in amongst the long grass; hidden beneath a blanket of ash. Sarah McGuire wasn't a happy little girl first of all her brother had tried to ditch her, riding off with his friends on their bigger and faster bikes and then she'd fallen off after hitting an unseen rabbit hole as they'd raced up to the old bunker. Sure he'd made the right noises when he'd looked at her scraped knee and they'd all helped her pick up her things that had fallen out of the pink basket on the front of her bike but they hadn't been able to find the chain. Sarah knew she was going to get in trouble with her dad despite what her brother said, she hadn't had the bike very long; a present for her birthday and she'd broken it already!
With her chainless bike being carried by one of her brothers friends and her perched upon the back of another the tearful girl turned and went home.
Five years on and an apocalypse later Caitlyn, Mouse and Clara were running for their lives across the same patch of ground when Caitlyn managed to find the errant bike chain. Had Sarah still been living in the area she would have been overjoyed as her father had been rather cross with her Caitlyn on the other hand probably not so much as she was sent sprawling into the ash and dirt; the rusty length of bike chain tangled about her ankles.
Sensing their prey’s weakness one of the ghouls leaps upon the stricken woman’s back with a howl of delight.

Unaware of her new friends plight Mouse ran up to the pair of figures standing by the bunkers entrance panting heavily "Dead...ones...two of...them" she says pointing to where a fallen Caitlyn and a running Clara could just be seen "Max...where’s Finnegan? We need Finnegan...we...we need to kill them!"

The slide violently lurched to one side as the ghoul crashed into its side once again, causing the former academic to grab the slides metal rail to stop himself from falling. It was as he was holding onto it that he notices the metal bolt lying upon the ground; sheared in half by the sudden impact upon its weakened structure resulting in a less than stable frame.
An arm suddenly makes a grab for his ankle as the first ghoul who had been scaling the narrow ladder neared the top and with only a small and increasingly unstable platform on which to stand Patrick would only be able to avoid it for so long.

“Ah…Finnegan yes he and his cronies can be pain” Sally replied fully understanding why the other woman was annoyed with him “…he has his uses though…a hammer my husband calls him…only one use but oh so very good at it” sometimes a little too good she silently added images of the pretty brunette found dead in the rubble coming unbidden to her mind “you be careful around him Nelx…he’s dangerous…had the world not gone to pot he would either be in a prison or an mental institution by now” she said, dropping her voice as she delivered the warning. Despite her mixed feelings over Nelx she didn’t want to see her get in Finnegan’s bad books as that could be fatal and there weren’t enough of them left for them to start killing each other.
Frowning at the sarcastic comment made about the kitchen, her kitchen Sally bites back the sharp retort before replying in a polite if slightly stern voice “No…the girls and I will be just fine thank you” meanwhile in the background Bharat’s voice could be heard urgently shouting the Irishman’s name.

Safety and security. Step two on the pyramid of needs. Now, to wait for the zed to come over and take them out. Those two enemies did arrive a few moments later; one of them bashed itself against the slide in an attempt to climb up it. That only caused it to violently shake, a sign that the frame was not holding up well to the years of neglect. The other zed decided to do the somewhat more normal action and climb up the ladder. This, however, was taking a long time; a long distance sprinter, and it couldn’t navigate anything higher than a 1 in 50 grade. This gave Patrick a bit to think things through. He thought it best to let the less intelligent zombie continue to bash itself against the slide while he waited for the climber to come within easy distance of his gladius, where he would hack its head in half. Then, he’d try and get the other zombie to come around so he could do the same thing.

But, everyone knows Burns’s famous saying, and like those plans, this one did gang agley. The sound of a metal giving into sheer force echoed through the park, followed by the sound of a metal bar clanging against the ground. A beam had given up its attachment to the slide, and had fallen. Now the platform twisted sickeningly with every zed bash. How that climber was able to hang on, Patrick didn’t know. Speaking of the climber, it attempted to grab onto Patrick’s leg. A last minute jerk prevented that from happening, though Patrick lost his balance. He did manage to take a swing at the head of the basher, before being forced to propel himself off the platform or run into what was now Schrödinger’s Zed for Patrick didn’t know if it was still alive or dead. After a tumble which caused his gladius to shave a strip of leather off his armour, Patrick quickly got up and ran toward the bunker. He didn’t know if he had managed to get that zombie, but he knew there was at least one left, and the firepower available to those who remained at the bunker would be able to take care of the zed, or at least Patrick hoped that was the case.

Max heard the scream and he was just about to run when Mouse appeared and gave him all of the confirmation that he needed that something bad was happening. Ghouls were happening, to be precise. Then Mouse babbled something about needing Finnegan and if time had not been of the essence then he would easily have stopped to berate her for a second on how that thug was not necessary. Max was up for a laugh and joking around (although less so in their current climate) but that man was just plain wrong. "JP with me!" He shouted as he broke into a run, his hammer clutched in his hand it took him five seconds at max to find the ghouls on top of Caitlyn. With his impacting force he switched the hammer around to the nail removing side and slammed that straight into the head of the first ghoul. Pulling it out he kicked the second one in the next and waited to see their reactions.

They were going to make it…Caitlyn could hear whatever was chasing them right behind, but so long as they kept this pace they would get away…they had to. This mentality kept her going right up until the point she hit the bike chain, causing her to fall, her legs hopelessly entangled in the rusted metal. Cursing, she tried to rise, only to find out that the chain merely became even more restraining, if that were possible. It was as she tried to kick a foot free that one of whatever was chasing her jumped onto her back, the impact driving all of the air from her lungs. She couldn't have moved if she wanted as her lungs failed to function for a moment. She winced, waiting for the impact of claws or whatever this thing on her had, only to hear something happen to it. Her lungs still not drawing air, she could feel her consciousness slipping, her mouth open and gasping like a fish. It was right as she was blacking out that her body decided to function again, but regrettably it was too late…her oxygen-starved brain decided it had to shut down all conscious receptors to conserve precious fuel. She'd just have to hope her savior, or Clara, or if Clara was the savior than just her, would be capable of getting her back to safety. Her last thought before losing consciousness was that at least this way if they couldn't get her to safety she wouldn't be awake for her own demise.

A yowl of pain ripped through the park as the blade tore a bloody gouge through the ghouls face; a blow that would have reduced most people to a blubbering, bleeding wreck but not this one oh no it just charged after its prey along with its far more able companion. The bunker wasn't far away in fact Patrick would be just about able to make out the outline of figures just outside its door, unfortunately like Clara and Caitlyn found out to their horror the ghoul on his tail was quick on his and one fatal misstep could send him tumbling into its awaiting maw and even worse what appeared to be another one was heading straight for him, cutting a forty-five degree angle in order to intercept his path.

A sickeningly meaty thud accompanied the hammer blow Max delivered followed by and equally disgusting suck sound as he pulled it out. Having rushed after to the two men Mouse wasted little time in delivering a series of blows to the things already badly damaged head as it thrashed around on the floor, splattering the ash covered ground with its blood.
Despite the imminent death of its partner and the loss of its prey the one that Max had kicked made no attempt to run but instead launched itself at the former body builder only to find itself thrown to the floor by Jon-Paul as he barrelled into the thing followed by A single blow to its head killing the monstrosity cold.
From behind them the sound of somebody clapping could be heard as Finn and his crew; armed to the teeth emerged from the bunker with an anxious looking Bharat close behind "Well, well what do you know Muscles can swing a hammer" he said with a grin on his face "You boys put on a nice show, I didn't have you down as being such stone cold killers...say Muscles what’s wrong with Scully?" he said to Max, nodding his head at Caitlyn's unconscious form.

"No,no, nolo que está malcon ella?" Mouse babbled in Spanish; rushing over to the former police woman’s side and shaking her. She hadn’t noticed her new friend fall, only Max and Jon-Paul’s headlong rush at the creatures and the subsequent skirmish. Leaning in close to the woman unsure whether or not to attempt CPR Mouse continues making desperate plea’s in Spanish to the stricken woman hoping that somebody would know what to do "Caitlyn? despertar Caitlyn por favor!"

Clara and Caitlyn had been running forever it seemed....carrying their baskets of vegetables... and being followed by they knew not what. Clara heard Caitlyn fall, and then curse. But it took a few running steps before the seamstress was able to slow herself down, and turn around. What she saw when she did was horrifying to her. Max was hammering one monster, and kicking the other. What were these monsters? And.. oh no! One had killed Caitlyn. She was dead on the ground. Mouse appeared, and started yelling at the poor dead Caitlyn. That was just too much, and Clara once again burst into tears. The basket that she had been carrying so vigilantly, fell to the ground, and vegetables were rolling in all directions. She walked over to her friend, knelt, and took her hand. She held onto her hand, and with a bowed head, and tears streaming down her cheeks... leaned over and gave Caitlyn a kiss on the forehead. The seamstress could be heard to murmur..."I miss you already, my friend." Poor Clara didn't realize that Caitlyn was only unconscious.

"A hammer isn't such a use when it's on your own head." Nelx cautioned, fully against the idea that Finnegan was useful in the slightest. She nodded in agreement as Sally delivered her own caution, warning her to be careful around the violent man. "I'll be sure to remember that." Nelk said, all the while nodding slowly. Having not meant to offend Sally, Nelx appeared almost upset by Sally's next comment, causing her to drop her voice to a normal tone, rather than her usual sarcasm to say, "Why not? I want to help... It's not as if I have anything better to do, and..." Nelx continued along the same lines for a few more sentences, before stopping to hear Sally's reply. She certainly wouldn't be going in the same direction Finnegan was going on, that was for certain. No matter what the trouble was, it couldn't be that bad...

The runners were dispatched, ghouls, zombies, whatever you preferred to call them, they were dead now. Finn had, of course, turned up just in time to be useless with his gang. Max gripped the hammer tighter in his hand as the man mocked him, it would be pointless getting into an argument now and Max didn't fancy his chances in a three on one fight, no matter how good he was. "Caitlyn's been knocked out, as would be clear to you if you used your brain." He said to Finn, before moving next to her and gently putting his hand on Mouse's shoulder. "She looks like she's just unconscious, she should be ok." He said, not entirely sure how much the girl understood. "Jean, we should get Caitlyn inside first, then look at getting the chain off of her legs, I should be able to carry her inside, so you just need to watch my back. Finn if you want to do something useful, go see if there are any more still out there. Mouse, was there anyone else with you other than Clara and Caitlyn?" With this, he tried lifting Caitlyn, she was relatively slim and he found he could carry her with no problem. Now supporting the girl with one arm holding her head and the other supporting her legs, he awaited responses from the rest of the group.

"Then drop the attitude and the sarcasm, It may have been tolerated by your former work colleagues but it won't be here" Sally scolded the already downcast woman, her hands automatically coming to her hips in a pose that many a disobedient child had witnessed after getting on the wrong side of the normally cheerful dinner lady "...Now if you want to help, go and see what veg we have, if we haven't got much then go down to the greenhouses and collect some, I am sure somebody would be willing to help you if you ask nicely" the woman continued her voice softening as she issued the instructions. As far as Sally was concerned the girl had been told and so there was no need to take it any further, she wasn't a nasty person but she wouldn't let others mess her around either.
The way into pantry was through an already open steel door just next to where the sink was; the large dimly lit room was about the size of Nelx's former living room and filled from floor to ceiling with metal racking, most of which were worryingly empty as were the net bags in which the fresh vegetables were normally stored.
Meanwhile somewhere in the facility the sound of raised voices and the scraping of chairs could be heard as a large group of people quickly departed.

"Cool it muscles no need for any name calling I was just asking" Finn replied holding up his hands in a defensive posture or at least what would have been a defensive posture had he not been holding a trench knife in one hand and a set of brass knuckles on the other "...Just get Scully down to Donald and we'll clean up the mess" the Irishman continued indicating the pair of bodies on the ground as he made the peace offering "Jimbo be a gent and help Cinderella with her groceries" Finn said turning his attention to James; the other Irishman nodding his head once in understanding before stooping to gather the scattered vegetables "you alright there Clara nothing broken?" he asked the tearful woman with genuine concern in his voice.
It was as Mouse was beginning to follow Max back inside and Finn and the remaining members of his crew were beginning the task of carrying away the two bodies that the shock of the attack followed by seeing her friend fallen on the ground wore off sufficiently that she suddenly remembered Patrick "¡Dios mío! Patrick’s still out there with two more of them!"

Heavy breathing could be heard coming from behind the former professor, so close in fact that he fancied that he could feel the things putrid breath upon his neck. Meanwhile the figure ahead of him drew nearer with every step forcing him to run at a tangent that unfortunately led away from the bunker.
However his attention was suddenly ripped away from the other figure as a hand clawed against his back; snagging his sleeve causing him to stumble. Before he had chance to right himself the thing was upon him dragging him down onto his knees and it was just as the thing was about to sink its rotting, crooked fangs into his neck that a sudden draft of air hit his face followed by a wet, sticky splash of blood on his cheek as an arrow passed through its skull "Patrick! the other ones behind you!" Mickey screamed already knocking another arrow onto his bow though not quick enough to deal with the remaining ghoul; its face hanging off in bloody tatters but none the less eager for its next meal.

Patrick was still out there, but Max was already holding Caitlyn and he couldn't really drop her. "Finn, go find Patrick now, JP go with him! Jim, I'm leaving you in charge until Finn gets back, get Clara and Mouse inside and then the food as well and then stand on watch, I'm going to get Caitlyn down to Donald and then I'll be right back." His voice in this made it clear that he was not going to be argued with and upon finishing his statement Max turn and carried Caitlyn, setting a brisk walk back to the entrance and going through and down the stairs, he went as quickly as he dared to carry Caitlyn, he didn't want to drop her, but he didn't want to be away from the entrance to the bunker for too long. Thankfully it was only about a one minute stride to Donald's from here, he should be there momentarily.

Patrick kept running towards the bunker, but it didn’t seem possible to outrun the zombie behind him. What was worse, there was another ghoul coming toward him, driving him away from the bunker. This wasn’t good at all. Where were the others? Patrick could hardly see anything from the sweat pouring into his eyes. Why wasn’t anyone helping him? Were they all preoccupied with other zombies? Had the bunker been overrun? He didn’t think long on that, however, when the zombie chasing him had finally closed the gap enough to catch his sleeve and bring him down. Patrick’s sword was knocked from his hand, and clattered away, leaving him nearly defenceless. It seemed this would be the end for Patrick, as the ghoul prepared to bite into him. An arrow from Mickey’s bow saved Patrick’s life, though covered him in that vile bituminous liquid.

Mickey didn’t have time to save Patrick from the other zombie, which was nearly on top of Patrick as well. There was no time to think, and little time to act. It was at this point that Patrick’s instinct to run switched over to a desire to fight. With hyperarousal hormones flowing through him, Patrick threw the dead zombie off him, trying to aim for the incoming beast. Patrick withdrew his Fairbairn Sykes (were it not for his Sam Browne belt, the one handed drawing would have been much harder to accomplish) and charged, thrusting the knife towards the eye of that hideous beast.

Max lifted Caitlyn off the ground. It finally reached Clara's understanding that Caitlyn wasn't dead. "I...am.... alright, nothing is broken" Clara said between the breaths she was trying to regain. "Do you think Caitlyn will be ok too?" She looked up with tear-filled eyes. She started to reach out to pick up a couple of the vegetables that were nearby, but she didn't want to leave Caitlyn. There were more shouts, and Clara turned to see Patrick running toward the bunker. Another monster dropped with an arrow in his neck. She watched horrified as Patrick fought for his life... the last monster was upon him, and his only weapon left was his knife. This was just too much for the seamstress, she couldn't take anymore...she ran into the bunker, through to her room, and flung herself onto her bed. Why or why was all of this happening? Hadn't they all suffered enough?

Watching the former body builder with a bemused look on his face, Finn tried to follow the rapid fire instructions thrown his way before turning to James and asking "what the hell did he just say?" the body builder already on his way towards the door and the other Irishman trying to console a tearful Clara before she too made a run for the bunker "Go after her Jimbo I think I've got this" Finn exclaimed in an exasperated voice before heading over to where Patrick had materialised through a break in the fog, though no sooner had he began moving that the break was gone and they were once more swallowed by the thick swirling fog "Oh great just what I need!"

Middle aged and formerly overweight because after all it was hard to stay overweight when subjected to a diet of military rations and fresh if slightly irradiated vegetables, Donald sat behind a desk that had formerly belonged to a SWO reading the decaying remains of a medical text written in the sixties. A vet by trade Donald had been pressed into service in order to help the struggling corpsman with the growing number of sick and dying within the bunker during the early days. However with the untimely death of the Corpsman in an ambush he had been left as the sole medical professional within the bunker though thankfully by this point those that had been sick had either recovered or were dead meaning that most of the time he only had to deal minor injuries.
Looking up from the text he watches as Max carries in a young woman with a look of alarm on his face caused partly by the fact she was obviously hurt and partly to the fact that he would have to care for her "What on earth happened to her?, quickly put her on the cot!" he said pointing to the military style cot in the corner of the room.
Whilst Max was giving his answer Donald leant over the stricken Caitlyn began his examination finding nothing but a rather nasty bruise on the side of her head from where she'd fallen "I think she should be alright...we'll just have to wait and see if she'll wake up is all"

Blood and saliva dripped from out of the creature’s maw as it leapt over the body of its fallen kin without even breaking its stride, its prey was on the ground and helpless and very soon it would feast upon its warm, steaming flesh. A part of the creatures mind, a civilised part that rarely spoke and was seldom heeded, a part that harked back to a time before the need to feast on the flesh of others suddenly screamed at it to stop, that its prey wasn't helpless but was in fact far from helpless and was holding something that the civilised part called "A Knife" but alas the creature was thinking of nothing but blood and killing and continued to do so right up until the point its prey drove the knife into its left eye socket.
"Nicely done...are there any..." Mickey stopped mid-sentence as he turned to stare fearfully behind him. A glimpse of a dark clothed figure within the fog could just about be seen before suddenly disappearing "Gods damn it Silas! We’re late to the party again!" Finn shouted at the other man with a look of frustration on his face "Hey Mickey you're back, bring us anything good?"
"Fraid not Finn, only bad news for the colonel" the young man replied as he pulled the arrow free of the ghoul's skull "You ok Patrick? No bites or anything?" he asked raising a single eyebrow in the other man's direction. There would be no turning if the answer was yes, after all these weren't exactly what you would call true horror movie zombies, but cuts and bites had a way of getting horribly infected out here so it was best to get them cleaned up quickly "Shall we head inside? Its cold out here and I haven't seen a proper bed in three days" Mickey continued as he got back onto his feet as meanwhile Finn directed the removal of the two bodies to somewhere where they could rot in peace.

As Clara had fled inside James quickly grabbed the last few vegetables from in amongst the ash before following her with Finn's urging; not that he needed the other mans permission to do so.
Entering the living area he places the bag of produce up a nearby table before cautiously approaching Clara's room; none of them with the exception of the colonel had what you would call an actual room with four walls and a door but it somehow helped everyone forget where they really were and how they had come to be here by referring to them as such. It also helped you ignore the fact that the only thing separating you from everyone else was an old blanket pinned to the roof "Hey Clara... are you alright? You seemed a little..." James wasn't sure how to finish the sentence; he wasn't used to talking to girls. Correction he wasn't used to not chatting them up as he was a pro at that, but comforting a girl that was upset? Nah no chance "look...I can find somebody for you to talk to if you like? Or...or you know... I could stop prattling on like an idiot and leave you alone"

DeletedUser31931

Donald pointed to the cot at the side of the room and Max dutifully obeyed, laying her down on the cot before proceeding to explain the circumstances, detailing the ghoul attack, "She'd quite obviously tripped over and fallen largely." Thankfully, however, it seemed that Caitlyn was ok. Max had a soft spot for the detective, she was slim with those deep blue eyes... but he was just dreaming, things like that were less important these days, survival was what mattered, although god knows if they were going to be able to do that forever. The chain was still wrapped around her legs, so Max pulled up a stool beside her cot and said to Donald "I'll deal with this, don't worry." Before carefully finding one end of the chain and slowly beginning to unwind it from around the girl's feet, he figured Finn could deal with the ghouls, he was doing this.
