Mohals, if you were asking me which program I use for editing, I use Macromedia Fireworks. But there are several different image editors available. Photoshop is a popular one, but not cheap to buy. If you are looking for a free image editor with similar functionality to photoshop, GIMP is always highly recommended.
Some of these programs aren't that easy to learn to use, but you'll find many online tutorials.
