The thing about effects is - sometimes some of the best aren't even noticed because they compliment the movie rather than just looking good for their own qualities. I hope that made sense.

But what about editing? In writing and movies/TV sometimes editing plays a big part in getting the message across. Haven't you ever watched a movie with a scene that has no reference to anything else in the movie and just sits there defying you to make sense of it?

It's all important.
Editing, directing, cinematography, acting, etc.

If one of these is utterly horrible the film will have a damn hard time being good.

That said, I don't belive this thread is going anywhere.

I'm going to toss out a little meat:

Writing is far more important than anything else and, for my proof, I present William Shakespeare's Hamlet, Othello, Romeo & Juliet, A Midsummer Night's Dream. A thousand presentations, some of them by children, and almost every time it's a magical experience.
