well, you don't need to be a pure fort fighter to participate in battles. a lot of players on w12 are pure fort fighter because until recently it was basically a fort fighting world. but many of us go to battles without having a pure build. and a lot of fort fighters that have a temp build for some quest (say pure trading or pure fms to go for the 3rd key) also choose to keep fighting, and do pretty well.

i am a quester, and still attend battles because i am part of a fort fighting town. when there was a dueling event on w6, i didn't participate because i hate dueling, but it didn't mean that had i chosen to give it a go, i would not have been allowed.
