When should I join/start a town and how do I find items?

Im just curious, when should I join or start a town?

And aside from quests and towns, are there any other way to find items randomly?

Jobs with luck can make you find neat things



but don't rely on it





just sell all your vendor trash that you earn from your jobs...you wont need them.
