What to do with friends ingame

I've just invited the residents of the town I am in.
One already accepted, but I can't see no friend's list showing me who is my friend.
And what can be done with friends ingame?

also friends are used to send flowers,hearts etc during the many many many events they run over the year. prob 4-5 per year. you send to them daily and they send to you.also helpful to get to know other crafters to get you items you need
