"where do we go?" asked o'connor.
"there's an old church up ahead. we'll rest there for the night before moving west.." james replied. he could see the church tower. it appeared to be empty.
the squad walked through the deserted streets towards the church.
James turned the corner, the church was directly in front of him. he continued walking towards it.
suddenly, a sporadic burst of MG fire hit the snow around him.
"there's krauts in the church! find cover!" James shouted as ran behind a low wall. it should provide some protection.
the others found similar cover. the MG stopped firing.
"what do we do sir?" asked capra nervously as he squinted at the church.
"we don't move. as soon as we break cover that MG is gonna come back to life."
lester interrupted; "well we're gonna have to move or else that thing's gonna blow us to hell!" he pointed down the road, there was a Stug III assault gun coming down the lane, it was accompanied by a halftrack full of panzergrenadiers.
"we're in for it now." muttered o'connor.

Sven stared across the beautiful countryside, wheat crops grew in the fields like a great lake of gold. in the distance he could see the farm house where he lived, where his beloved Ingrid would be baking bread. He was home.

Heavy machingun fire shattered the dream as Sven awoke not in the Danish countryside but in the cold, icy church. The sun was gone as was Ingrid oh how he missed her it'd been five years since he'd left the farm to join the third reich and how he wished he hadn't

"Americans on the northside sir" Heinrich shouted from his position behind his machingun a rifle report from the tower alerted Sven to another threat, one of teh men from third platoon burst into the main room "Sir Sgt Zimmerman says we have another group coming from the east" Sven saw the approaching chaos and decided he'd better act quickly. "Hanz set up first platton along the cemetary wall to the east and have second platoon approach the north, we need to kill them before their friends arrive" a deep rumbling noise echoed down the alleys accompanied with the telltale grinding of a tracked vehicle "What the hell.."
"Sir the third Panzergrenadier say they are here and they have a stug" Wilhelm shouted from his position behind the radio "Good work Wilhelm, stay here and coordinate their attack the rest of you follow me" Sven picked up his MP40 and headed off into the night.

"Take cover!" The sound of machine gun fire broke the relative quiet of the situation. Then from high in the church's tower the report of a rifle was heard. The bullet hit Murphy in the leg and set him crashing face first into the dirt. The rest of the men fled into the rubble of a house facing the church that had had its front blown apart.

"!" Muttered John to himself. " Drag Murphy over here!" Fortunately the riflemen was not able to finish his target as Murphy was dragged into the rubble pile. "Hey Laufner! How much time till the rest of the boys are here?" "15 minutes sir." Another rifle shot dug up the dirt in front of them. "Well, we can't just sit here they'll probably drop artillery shells on us or..." The clank and noise of tracked vehicles was coming from the north. "Great, we really need to get in that church now. There's probably a Panther waiting to shoot up our trucks as we withdraw." More gunfire burst out from the church aimed at its northern approach. "Jeeze, I think our companions we met earlier are about to get themselves slaughtered. Got any ideas Laufner?" "Well, first of all we need to get rid of our pal in the tower." "How?" "We bait him?" "Are you nuts?" "No that MG they have in there can only fire one way, if three of us move forward we'll draw our man in the tower and his pals into coming enough out of cover enough that we can blast them. I mean, look at the church. You have to put your rifle on top of the barricades. There are no firing slits." "Bill, Fannon! We're going to approach the church when I leave cover." "We're-" "Obey orders! The rest of you get in a firing line and try your best to sight in on the church. Even if you have a crappy old grease gun." John privately wondered why they brought so many of those things with.

John broke cover. He did the only thing he could do in this situation he zigzagged rapidly among the rubble and obstacles approaching the church. Bill and Fannon did the same.

James kept his head behind the low garden wall. the Stug III assault gun was providing coverign fire for the advancing panzergrenadiers. a HE shell landed several metres away and sent splinters everywhere. one splinter landed an inch away from o'connors injured leg.
the panzergrenadiers weren't far away. it was now or never.
"GIVE 'EM HELL!" James screamed as he stood up and sent hot lead flying everywhere.
his men followed suit.
the panzergrenadiers went to ground and tried to return fire. the jerries in the church and the Stug both opened up, sending bullets everywhere. luckily no-one was hit. (for now.)
James emptied his clip and ducked back under cover.
his men did the same. capra tossed a grenade at the stug, it landed next to the tracks, damaging them severely.
the stug had been immobilised.

John, Bill, and Fannon weaved towards the church as the armored vehicle, whatever it was started firing. John's heart skipped a beat when the inhabitants of the church started to send lead flying only to be satisfied that they were shooting at the fellows on the other side of the church. John looked up at the tower just in time to see a body drop to the ground below, well at least they were having an effect.

James kept his head beneath the garden wall. were those damned jerries ever going to stop firing?
surely they would run out of ammo soon.
capra peered over the top of his cover and was shot in the head by a sniper.
the germans had james and his men pinned, and his surviving men weren't much of a fighting force. he had no choice. he had to surrender. but how?
James took off his empty ammo pouch, covered it in snow and held it up.
"we surrender!" he shouted gravely.
he just hoped that these germans didn't execute their prisoners.

Sven emptied the magazine of his gun at the motley collcetion of Artillerymen and quartermasters that was currently assaulting his position.
Deafened and disoriented Sven began the process of reloading his MP but knew little of what was going on around him.
A man to his right cried out in pain, blood flowed freely down the side of the mans head. pulling the mans hand aside Sven examined the wound "Your lucky another inch to the right and you'd be dead...Pull back to the church" the young private nodded before scurrying off towards the church, he'd lost his ear sending him to the rear was the least Sven could do.
"Sir I have a message from Oberleutnant Stiegler of second platoon.." Sven turned in suprise at Wilhelms appearance "I thought i told you to stay in the church?"
"Sorry sir but second platoon say they have captured a group of Americans what do you want to do with them?" Sven quickly considered his options "Have them lock the Americans in teh vestry and then redeploy to the right of us, also see if you can get those Panzergrenadiers to circle around"
"Yes Sir will do...oh by the way i was told to inform you that the Stug is out of ation" that sounded about right the only piece of armour in his section and it was next to useless

James looked around grimly as a group of germans escorted them to the church.
as they walked through the graveyard he could feel the germans in the church watching them. something hit a gravestone to James' right. probably fired by the group of American artillerymen that were struggling towards the church, suffering mounting casualties.
they walked into the vestry, the guards motioned for James and his men to line up against the wall.
James did as he was told, o'connor and lester did likewise.
three of the guards walked out of the room, the remaining two stood with their backs to the door, facing James and his men with MP40's held at hip height.
James indicated at o'connor's injured leg, maybe the germans would be kind enough to patch it up.
one of the guards looked at o'connor's leg and nodded, after a hurried discussion with his comrade the guard stepped outside, a minute later he and three riflemen came in, two of the riflemen helped o'connor to walk. the third watched o'connor intently with his rifle held at hip height.
the group moved out of the room, leaving lester, James and the two germans.

So much for stealth. Apparently the Germans had noticed them and John could only dive for cover as bullets started to fly through the air buzzing past like angry hornets. As he dove he saw Bill collapse like a house of cards. Then in another Fannon was almost on top of him, only to get caught by another volley of bullets which sent him crashing down inches from where John was taking cover. Shoot, he thought to himself.

Murphy and the rest who had stayed behind were more satisfied about their position, it was apparent that Bill and Fannon were dead, but at least John was still left. A volley from them brought audible yelling from the German position, and a shot from Murphy, he thought he'd done it anyway, had made a figure disappear from a their firing position.

How to get out, John wondered to himself, then he had it. He was about 50 yards from the church, perhaps if he could get to the wall he might be able to make it. He broke cover and dashed for the side of the church smashing into the wall with a large whump. He dropped to the ground just as several rifle shots flew through the section of wall he'd just run into. Apparently at point blank range rifles had more than enough power to penetrate through the thin walls. Leaving him lying at the base of the foundation. He took out a grenade then. And hoping for the best he jammed it into a place where a gun barrel had been sticking out only a little while before. He hit the ground just as the explosion blew out the weak barricade...

The wall exploded with a shattering of ancient masonry, two of Sven's men cartwheeled through the air falling to the ground with a thump, both were dead. From where he crouched Sven could see the blood flowing from Michaels head wound, Two vacant blue eyes staring right into his.
He tore his eyes away from the bloody scene before him and continued firing at the enemy before him. Hanz dropped to the ground to avoid retalitory fire as two grenades of his own sailed towards the Americans.
To his right Sven could just about make out the remains of second platoon as they began their encircling manoeuvre. He slammed another magazine into his weapon how many had it been now? two? three? who knew, he'd lost count long ago.
"Listen up men once second platoons in postion we'll assault their postion, lets show these Americans what the Heer is capable of!"

*Cough*Cough* John choked on the dust from the smashed wall. His Tommy Gun had hit the ground hard. Exercising caution he fired a test shot, only to find that the gun had jammed. Swearing to himself John attempted to unjam the gun without the Germans noticing his presence.

"The grenades fell short," Abramoff muttered to himself. Nonetheless they had fallen too close and it was clear they had to start moving again soon. They just might have to give up on supporting Colonel John as his position was completely inaccessible due to some maniac firing their gun from inside the church. Holy places had no right to be treated in warfare, however Abramoff kept that idea to himself. He looked at his watch, 10 minutes, he was going to have to move. At that moment Montague attempted to foolhardily fire his M3 into the darkness inside the church, the force of several bullets sent his body hurtling on top of Abramoff who gave a cry of anguish. "This war might get to me yet," he thought. Taking one last look at their beleaguered colonel who was fiddling with his Tommy Gun Abramoff indicated the remaining men to move to the left of their position, perhaps the Germans would be a little more off balance then. The men started to move leaving Murphy to provide covering fire.

James eyed up the two germans. maybe it was time to make a break for it.
it was only a small room, and there was only about three or four paces between james and the guards.
he turned his head to look at lester. lester looked back at him.
trying to get his point across, james tried to minutely his head in the direction of the germans.
lester caught on, but so did one of the germans, who promptly raised his MP40 to shoulder height and shouted something.
ah, what the hell.
james ran forward at the germans, lester followed his lead.
the two germans opened fire and bullets were sprayed around the room.
james heard lester scream in pain and fall to the floor behind him.
several bullets hit james chest and james cried out in pain, another bullet hit the side of his head. he collapsed on the floor, breathing hard.
lester was dead, he was going to die, only o'connor was living, but he was a prisoner. hopefully being treated by a german medic.
ah well. he'd tried. and failed.

right, this thread is undoubtedly dead. time to close it up.

so, this is what happened to the survivors...

liam o'connor, (the sole survivor from my squad) was treated for his leg wound and was taken back to a POW camp in germany.

the surviving men in leffetejean's squad retreated back into the forest and linked up with a larger company of GI's that retreated back to bastonge and took part in some of teh ferocious fighting there.

both braetwalda's and masterofwar's German sections advanced along with the main body of troops trhough the ardennes and took part in the fighting at bastonge.later they withrew and where taken prisoner. ending the war in a POW camp.

right, regal, if you could lock this thread now then.

goodbye, and the Berlin Rp will be up as soon as possible!
