Cool. This could be a somewhat fun addition. Glad they are extending the feedback / beta testing time to get it right before it is released.

It would be a hard one to 'put the genie back in the bottle', if it was released too early, and then they decided to make any sort of game balance modifications after the fact.

I don't play Beta so don't have access to what's going on there regarding gear optimization, but I would like to ask a question and then express a concern.

Has any thought been given to having an initial cap or ceiling on optimizing items, say level 5?
This is a cap that can always be raised or even removed in future releases while minimizing it's initial impact on the game while it's reviewed and mearsured.

My concern is that without a cap/ceiling, with the supply of cash/nuggets required, ANY toon can turn a simple shop item into something that could/would create a measurable and clear imbalance in some dynamics of the game. I've heard of some left hands being optimized to level 9 so far, so I'm guessing there's not a cap/ceiling at least to level 10, even if there is one.

An example is a Modified Winchester (250-250 damage) at a price of $19,000 each in my Gunsmith. I can buy 200 of them at a cost of $3.8M without blinking an eye. Add in the cost of optimizing, not a sweat.

But the question to be posed is: do the Devs and Mod Team really want me running around with a 1000-1000 damage left hand at fort fights?
Better yet, as an advent, I'd loan it to a dueler and let him start handing out what, 3k-4k crits???
Wasn't Geronimo's shotgun removed from the game because of this measurable and clear imbalance?

I know optimization will be a level playing field dynamic of the game because each and every player will have equal access to exercise and benefit from it, and I'm looking forward to it.

But I'm suggesting/encouraging baby steps at a time until it's impact can be discerned and reviewed.
Don't put yourself in a position to have to take away a level 25 optimized left hand or dueling weapon.

Some might argue that such an optimizing venture is highly improbable because of the cost to get a piece of gear to that level. Ok, so it's highly improbable and expensive.
My argument is that if it's possible, it will be done, to what I believe, a detriment.

The last thing I heard is that that particular update is getting revamped and is on hold. I am sure others will chime in deiben.

last i saw on beta, cap is level 5.
if cap was higher, let's take a look at level 10 items. you need 59049 of single items to upgrade to level 10.

mod.winchester on level 5 does 375-375 damage and you need 243 to upgrade to that level.
that's 4.6M only for items plus upgrade costs. overpowered? don't think so.
for level 10 mod.winchester damage is 500-500 and you need 1.1 billion $ to upgrade it (plus upgrade costs).

Better yet, as an advent, I'd loan it to a dueler and let him start handing out what, 3k-4k crits???
upgraded weapons are NOT auctionable :)

adding a bit to what was said, a modified Winchester doing 375-375 for however much it would cost would be a waste. Why? A level 1 of reeves, baker, or des for a level 150 player does 352-374 damage plus stats, plus set bonus and would cost less by the time you bought "X" amount of Winchesters plus then added the cost to actually upgrade each level. Right now beta is capped at level 5 with level 6 saying "coming soon", but that could be ages. Even if it goes higher to 6,7,8,9 and 10 the cost to upgrade and the amount of winchesters keeps going up. True, might be hard to find 3 or 9 of a certain tombola rifle to level and you can have unlimited shop rifles, but as player who could spend 20-50 million making a rifle, its not worth it. And if someone is crazy enough to do that, they deserve the extra damage. How many tombolas before the best leveled shop rifle made becomes obsolete because set bonuses or damage are better on the new stuff?

Still, i hope the rare item's upgrades get their own formula for leveling that makes it worth leveling and all upgraded items become auctionable soon. Lots are excited about this feature, but clearly want to wait until it is more balanced. Until then, the donkeys and yumas i purchased aren't going anywhere except to be spayed and neutered :donkey:

Great update, the Shop sign is now dazzlingly lurid, and there is a pointless extra link on the left. Why?

Edit: another update and they're gone. I hope they stay gone.

I have not tested it that far myself, but I have seen screenshots of items upgraded to level 8. Were those photoshoped then? Or actually exist?

they have item code up to level 999, but clearly if level 5 takes 243 of an item, then level 999 must be at least a trillion

That's 3^999 :)

It would be better if we could customize certain items and choose what AP's and SP's we want on that item with the same multiplier that is already on the item itself e.g. +0.04 Aim and then upgrade it to whatever level we wish.

just copy item code in chat and change last 3 digits to level you want and you will stats of that item's desired level. however, current upgrading cap is level 5 on beta.

yea i was a bit puzzled as to the shop updates. were players actually having trouble finding the shop? Its pretty a large button in the bottom center of your screen cleverly titled SHOP... and the only time sales were "hard" to find was if an event had an item to sell for like heart bags etc. even then all you had to do was click across the tabs until the actual weekly sale item appeared in its category.

So an overhyped bug fix just happened with a couple of inconsequential features that don't significantly help game play? In order to improve the game, wouldn't it be better just to fire the developer and use their salary to advertise instead?

Deleted User - 1693871

Is this not false advertising, telling us there's a sale on in the Shop when there isn't? :)

This is what happens when marketing gets involved. I don't need two separate buttons on the screen that take me to exactly the same place ( Union Pacific Shop ). The tutorial shows you how to get there, it is not rocket science.

The should at least give us an interface setting option to remove the duplicate button if we don't need it.

Probably should be happy they did not use a flashing, animated button for this.

DeletedUser30343

I think I could tolerate the flashy buttons more if there was anything in the shop worth buying. Maybe it's just me, but I think the shop is mostly full of overpriced crap buffs and gear which are worse than or just barely better than what we get for free.

I have a concern. With all of these new upgrades, there seems to be an issue developing. If person a gets a rare left hand gun, they can upgrade that rare left hand gun. (no issues there). However, it seems to me that the Golden Gun has become not as important as it has in previous years. Take for example, if I had been holding enough money to get 3 Nobleman's Rifles upgrade the item will out preform the Golden Gun. With the upgrade the Golden Gun becomes less powerful. I personally believe that in order to keep the Golden Gun around, there needs to be an increase in the bonus. The Golden Gun is an item that is only found once. It is the image of sorts of The West.

yea it really makes you feel like some fat cat at corporate had is secretary turn the cpu on for him and HE couldn't find the shop, so he said "we're loosing millions more buttons!" I bet the next tombola will have notifications pop up windows that reappear too fast to ever close them all
