What if the Cold War escalated into something more sinister than what it was? That's the question we will now ask ourselves. As of October 16th, 1985, a war has been raging for nearly a year. Since this RP has been created for the war-weary RPists, I'll not bother with all the details of the war so far.
The gist of it is that the Warsaw pact entered the war outnumbering NATO nearly 2 to 1, since the US was hesitant to deploy large numbers of troops so soon after Vietnam. After some initial success, the Communists pushed through much of Germany, and set their sights on France, Norway and Denmark. With the timely arrival of reinforcements, mainly from USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines and South Korea, the Communist advance was halted just before the situation became a disaster. The NATO forces have since begun a slow but steady counterattack, taking back lands lost in West Germany and making their way East.
Now we get to the focus of our story, the tenacious land of Poland. NATO forces have already encroached into Poland, liberating Szczecin. Wrocław and Poznań are now contested, and the ports of Gdańsk and Gdynia have been blockaded by the NATO navy. The efforts of NATO troops have been greatly enhanced by uprisings of armed pro-democracy insurgents. In fact, anti-communist rebels in Poland are comparable in numbers to the regular Polish military, from which dissenters are also deserting to join NATO troops.
Specifically, our story is set in Warszawa, Poland's capital and largest city (there is no Warsaw, only Warszawa). NATO troops have not yet reached the city, but are likely to in the near future. You, at any rate, may not fight at all. Soldier or civilian, your task is to go about your life, and your mission is to survive this war intact. In this world where men tear their fellow man to shreds and world leaders stand ready to deep fry millions of people at the press of a button, survival is your most difficult and important task.
As for your characters, you can be whoever you want to be (as long as it's realistic). You can be a resistance fighter, a NATO or Warsaw Pact soldier, an activist, a butcher, a baker or a candlestick maker. Use your imagination!
Here's a standard character format:
Name:*
Age:
Gender:
Occupation:
Country:
Loyalty: NATO, Warsaw Pact or none
Ideology: Libertarian, Communist or Other
Appearance:
Personality:
Weapons (if any):
Bio:
*You have the option of not being Polish at all, but if you are, unauthentic names are a major pet peeve of mine. If you can't think of a good Polish name, PM me and I'll make one up for you. Remember, women with names ending in -ski conjugate them as -ska. For example, the wife of Bronisław Komorowski (the current RL president) is known as Anna Komorowska.
Remember, this is not a war RP; the war is here to provide a strong subplot. Good luck, or as we say in Poland, powodzenia!

Name: Dariusz "Darek" Januszewski
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Occupation: Resistance fighter (poses as an artist)
Country: Poland
Loyalty: NATO
Ideology: Libertarian
Appearance: Six feet tall and on the slim side, he looks quite ordinary, with dark brown hair spilling out from under his trademark slouch hat.
Personality: He is a fanatic Libertarian, and extremely anti-communist. He seems comical and easygoing, but commits to the cause of freedom with all his soul. His strength is barely more than average, but his intelligence and tenacity are exceptional.
Weapons (if any): Knife, P-83 Wanad pistol, AKMS (AK-47 variant), Błyskawica SMG (designed and mass-produced by the Polish resistance during WWII), Krav Maga
Bio: The youngest of three sons, he is the son of an Armia Krajowa (WWII resistance army, lit. "Country's Army") veteran who continued to be active in the Polish underground state even after the war. His father's involvement with the Jewish underground has helped Darek to become well-versed in Krav Maga. His father also taught Darek many important combat and survival skills. Darek has been involved with the Polish underground state all his life. When the war came to Poland, he, like so many other resistance members, took the opportunity to strike. His cover as an artist is well established; he even has a full studio installed in his apartment.
