The bottom line is: You gain NOTHING by disbelieving, you gain FAITH/BELIEF by believing in something.

This is basically Pascal's Wager. We should start a new topic on this one. It is a terrible argument and has been debunked over and over again.

Little something my friend said the other day. Not her exact words, but it's the basic idea.

You know how we can sit around and make little Play-Doh men? They're on a completely different level than us. They can't possibly comprehend us or OUR world, so I see it as the same thing with religion. How could mere mortals possibly comprehend the true extent of God? Those who glorify Him, who is to rightfully say he thinks the same way we do? If he thinks at all? God and humans are on two totally different levels, just like us and Play-Doh men. Those who don't glorify Him, who is to say you could possibly comprehend existance so well to prove He doesn't exist? The world we live in and wherever God is can't possibly be on the same comprehendable level. That's how I think of it. We are the Play-Doh men to God, we are God to the Play-Doh men.

I dunno about any of you, but it seems to make sense to me.

Analogies are fun. But, this analogy holds a couple of assumptions as facts... It holds that there IS a "God" that we don't understand.

But, that aside, if we truly don't understand "God", let me ask you this...why do you think you have enough knowledge about it to call it good?

Let's say that the "Devil" is true. The "Devil" is very powerful and so far above us that we don't understand his actions, right? Does power and lack of understanding equate the need for us to worship it? Does it merit such respect and adoration? Or, does the fact that the "Devil is an evil ******* mean that it doesn't deserve our worship and we should shun it?

Now, you have your "God". You are claiming that "God" is so far above us that we can't possibly understand us. So, my question is, why do you think "God" (this is all assuming that it actually exists) deserves our worship.

The play-doh argument is ridiculous. A play doh doll is inanimate. No life, no conscience, nothing. Or, if it has life, we are incapable of recognizing it. So, with this analogy, are you going to tell me that God is incapable of recognizing us as being alive, being cognizant?

Also, the basis for the beliefs in God are statements made by Man. You believe in something told to you by other men. So, as a man, I tell you to believe in the tooth fairy. Will you do it? Only if there's something to gain from doing so. This goes back to the basis of these arguments. You "want" to believe. It is make-believe, fantasy, creative storytelling, but you want to believe it. So, you have faith in that which is being told to you by others. Not because it is true, but because you want it to be true.

And why would you want it to be true? Because the alternative is just too dang scary. Belief, particularly the belief in God, is therefore rooted in fear.

Hey, Toko, your faith is awesome, but I don't think it very Christlike to call people ******s, stupid, and to generally insult them without knowing any more about them than what beliefs they have posted in these forums. "Do unto others," would you have them assume that all Christians are imbeciles? Intelligence has nothing to do with your religion, or lack thereof.

Brother, there is nothing more Christian then to insult, harm and berate other, non-christian people!!!
In the name of God, of course. We Christians are responsible for the salvation of every single person on the planet. If tough love is what it takes, then so be it!!!

And always remember to give more than to take. :)

I think that all the materialist scientifics that believe this world is only made by tangible things are missing a part of all the Kosmos... just think about yourself, where did you come from?... I don't mean your body, I mean the thing that controls your body, if you look deeply into yourself you are going to discover you ain't only physical. I once was all alone in the top of a mountain, just feeling the wind in my body, just feeling everything around me, not thinking, that's how I discovered the power of nature, that we are all one, that we are all God, and this is eternal.

Ever heard of biochemistry? Drugs? There is no one self, you can create almost any personality, emotion and feeling just by adding some substances to your system. There's nothing mythical about it.

Don't be angry just because I exposed you for the fraud that you are. You can still find forgiveness if you pray.

You truely are a simple minded individual, aren't you? Listen, if you want to take my job, then I suggest you go elsewhere.

lmao!!

Though that does describe a lot, if not most, religious zealots of many types of faith. Not the taking of your job, but Single-mindedness, unwavering, and always expecting others to change their beliefs for theirs and never vice versa. :p At least Christians can't curse anyone! Ha ha!

I did not say Christian, I said Christlike. As cliché as it is, WWJD? He talked, preached, and showed his faith by his actions. Nowhere in the bible does it say to insult or harm non Christians. It says to "love thy enemy."

DeletedUser

Lol. But you just called anyone that isn't a christian your enemy.

Hey, Juan. It is a bit danger to think human are God, well also brave enough to think like that.

I myself agree the "Soul" Concept you have, yes , i have had the same feeling like you, standing by the seaside, watching those waves hitting on the rocks, that's how i comprehend the magic of nature.

But anyway, i still reserved that we are not God, we can't play tricks on lifes and the nature. It will only bring us disaster at last.

i apologize if i implied that. it was not meant that way. however, that is the quote, and it does seem as if he was acting like you were his enemies. i hope he changes that.

Opportunistic memory. Here, have a few biblical quotes to remind you of how much it says to "love they enemy:"

Kill People Who Don't Listen to Priests
Anyone arrogant enough to reject the verdict of the judge or of the priest who represents the LORD your God must be put to death. Such evil must be purged from Israel. (Deuteronomy 17:12 NLT)

Kill Witches

You should not let a sorceress live. (Exodus 22:17 NAB)

Kill Homosexuals
"If a man lies with a male as with a women, both of them shall be put to death for their abominable deed; they have forfeited their lives." (Leviticus 20:13 NAB)

Kill Fortunetellers
A man or a woman who acts as a medium or fortuneteller shall be put to death by stoning; they have no one but themselves to blame for their death. (Leviticus 20:27 NAB)

Death for Hitting Dad
Whoever strikes his father or mother shall be put to death. (Exodus 21:15 NAB)

Death for Cursing Parents
1) If one curses his father or mother, his lamp will go out at the coming of darkness. (Proverbs 20:20 NAB)
2) All who curse their father or mother must be put to death. They are guilty of a capital offense. (Leviticus 20:9 NLT)

Death for Adultery
If a man commits adultery with another man's wife, both the man and the woman must be put to death. (Leviticus 20:10 NLT)

Death for Fornication
A priest's daughter who loses her honor by committing fornication and thereby dishonors her father also, shall be burned to death. (Leviticus 21:9 NAB)

Death to Followers of Other Religions
Whoever sacrifices to any god, except the Lord alone, shall be doomed. (Exodus 22:19 NAB)

Kill Nonbelievers
They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul; and everyone who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman. (2 Chronicles 15:12-13 NAB)

Kill False Prophets
If a man still prophesies, his parents, father and mother, shall say to him, "You shall not live, because you have spoken a lie in the name of the Lord." When he prophesies, his parents, father and mother, shall thrust him through. (Zechariah 13:3 NAB)

Kill the Entire Town if One Person Worships Another God
Suppose you hear in one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you that some worthless rabble among you have led their fellow citizens astray by encouraging them to worship foreign gods. In such cases, you must examine the facts carefully. If you find it is true and can prove that such a detestable act has occurred among you, you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock. Then you must pile all the plunder in the middle of the street and burn it. Put the entire town to the torch as a burnt offering to the LORD your God. That town must remain a ruin forever; it may never be rebuilt. Keep none of the plunder that has been set apart for destruction. Then the LORD will turn from his fierce anger and be merciful to you. He will have compassion on you and make you a great nation, just as he solemnly promised your ancestors. "The LORD your God will be merciful only if you obey him and keep all the commands I am giving you today, doing what is pleasing to him." (Deuteronomy 13:13-19 NLT)

Kill Women Who Are Not Virgins On Their Wedding Night
But if this charge is true (that she wasn't a virgin on her wedding night), and evidence of the girls virginity is not found, they shall bring the girl to the entrance of her fathers house and there her townsman shall stone her to death, because she committed a crime against Israel by her unchasteness in her father's house. Thus shall you purge the evil from your midst. (Deuteronomy 22:20-21 NAB)

Kill Followers of Other Religions.
1)If your own full brother, or your son or daughter, or your beloved wife, or you intimate friend, entices you secretly to serve other gods, whom you and your fathers have not known, gods of any other nations, near at hand or far away, from one end of the earth to the other: do not yield to him or listen to him, nor look with pity upon him, to spare or shield him, but kill him. Your hand shall be the first raised to slay him; the rest of the people shall join in with you. You shall stone him to death, because he sought to lead you astray from the Lord, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery. And all Israel, hearing of this, shall fear and never do such evil as this in your midst. (Deuteronomy 13:7-12 NAB)

2) Suppose a man or woman among you, in one of your towns that the LORD your God is giving you, has done evil in the sight of the LORD your God and has violated the covenant by serving other gods or by worshiping the sun, the moon, or any of the forces of heaven, which I have strictly forbidden. When you hear about it, investigate the matter thoroughly. If it is true that this detestable thing has been done in Israel, then that man or woman must be taken to the gates of the town and stoned to death. (Deuteronomy 17:2-5 NLT)

All religions are the same, aren't they.

Christianity is not the only religion.
I'm surprised nobody is insulting Islam, Judism, and Hinduism.

Islam, Christianity and Judaism use the same source. You will find all the above in all three religions.
