Ranged weapons or Melee weapons

How do you think whether weapon is good?

In the begining, I thought ranged weapon will be much better
but, In melee vs ranged match, melee dueller wins a match going away!
even, Lv10 melee beats Lv14 ranged

In low(1~20?) level, melee has advantage to ranged?
or just melee is good than ranged?

I think in the end melee will fade away as people get their hand on real firearms. I depends on you vigor and shooting skill. Lets just say if you have 10 shooting and 5 vigor, then go for the ranged weapon.

There are several different stats that confirm the outcome of a duel.

For one, you may be facing off against an opponent with bad defensive skills, or all around bad fighting skills.

Aim, vigor, shooting, appearance. These are your offensive skills.
Dodge, toughness, reflex, tactics. These are your defensive skills.

And in that order, up and down, it displays how things are calculated.

Aim, dodge, tactics and appearence are used with both, melee and ranged.

Why are there no pistols? After all thats what the west was famous for.

Both Weststats and Westtools are incomplete. You are able to get pistols, longbarrels and other guns later on in the game.

good to know. now that i think about it, in the 1830's when texas was winning independence, flintlocks were the best you could get. so, i take back what i said about it being ridiculous.

go the shotguns! lol, i love those weapons! but probably cos they make the biggest mess...

and yes, i know they suck at any real distance!

good to know that you can get a six shooter... hope its not like at lvl 50.
