Questions about duels

Hello guys, how’s it going? I’m just getting started with duels (I’m level 100 in Colorado) and I have so many, soooo many questions xD. Could you help me out?

Question 1: What is the importance of appearance/tactics? I understand that they are compared depending on whether you're an attacker or a defender, and then a bonus is applied to aiming, but what I don't quite understand is why it’s so important. I mean, my current build is 100% dodge and 100% dexterity, so my question here is: Is my high dodge not enough to compensate for my lack of tactics? Should I add tactics and reduce dodge?

Question 2: The sets… I’m soooo confused about the sets, I don’t know which one to buy or upgrade. Right now, I’m using American Patriot clothes with Bounty Hunter weapons and a vaquero horse and saddle, which turns my build into a lot of dodge, some aiming, and some shooting, which leads me to question number 3.

Question 3: The clothes you can get in the city stores. I currently have the "Fancy Felt Hat" upgraded to +4, which gives me better bonuses than the American Patriot set. So, my question is: Is there any other clothing that I could upgrade to +4 that’s easily available in the city? I was thinking about the sandals +4 to improve my dodge, but I’m not sure if separate pieces would ultimately add up to more than the current set. Is there any other clothing I could buy and upgrade in the city?

Well, that’s all, I hope I didn’t confuse you as much as I’m confused myself :D Thanks a lot for helping guys, byeee!!

Appearance only helps when you're duel attacking; Tactics only helps when you're duel defending. Therefore, the kit you wear when you're attacking could have Appearance, enough to beat their Tactics, and no Tactics of you're own. If you wear a defense kit, instead of XP or Drop or something else, you want enough Tactics to beat the Appearance of the person targeting you. Afaik, it doesn't matter if you beat them by 1, 10, 100, or even 1000, the bonus to your Aim is the same.

Generally speaking, newer is better. I have heard it said that you need to upgrade once for every year your set is out of date. Therefore, a set from 2017 needs to be ^6 to compete. Obviously there are many difference between sets and rules of thumb are never wholly accurate. If you're a melee dueler, a set that adds Shooting does nothing for you. Same thing if you're ranged and picking up Vigor.

Make sure you're including AP/SP from Set Bonus when you compare sets. Basic items from the shops don't normally have set bonuses, but there are some really nice items, if you can find enough of them and afford to upgrade them.

Good luck!

The duel formula is roughly:
Attack Value = Aim + (Appearance ÷ 2)
Defense Value = Dodge + (Tactics ÷ 2)
And you get a bonus aim for beating opponent appearance/tactics
Also if you have 250+ dodge more and choose the right dodge spot the opponent hit chance gets around 5% or 10% if you don't. It probably never gets to 0% hit chance.

2)
Sets and skills depend a lot on your opponent. Generally the sets that give the most skills are patriot endecott cowboy and pearl I think. But overall you can find combinations that fit your style

3)
There are plenty of shop item options. You can go to the wiki and check. Usually its the hats neckbands and some boots. At high levels the waupee resist items are strong too and give lots of skill points.

Conclusion:
Your skills dex+dodge seem fine give you a good balance for most duels since you get some aim + shooting and quite a lot of dodge.
Personally I think it's best if you did max aim + shooting and shoot all head and in tactics you choose to just stand and not dodge. This way you can beat most resist and dodge builds
On the other hand you could also try going max dodge and go mobility/dodge and choose to duck on the tactics. This build is a little harder to succeed because it doesn't deal much dmg but it's hard to get countered. You would probably need to shoot at arms because you don't have much aim.

Hello,
When you say max aim + shooting, can you tell me pls how many % you put in each? It´s 50/50?

Thank you
