Gulf States
Personally I think this is an absolutely terrific idea and quote one of the early posts "a game within a game". I admit that I have not read the entire thread so apologies if this has already been touched upon.
I would like to point out something here that could have the potential to lock out a huge amount of players of any age.
I'm currently working in Bahrain in the Middle East. Bahrain is considered to be one of the more free and liberal-minded nations in the Gulf community, but they are moving towards free elections here now, and already there are some 'hardliners' at the helm. Since my last trip here in May/June of this year, my return at the end of August was met with an impression of huge changes and restrictions.
Many of these changes are affecting what people can and can't do on the internet, many sites are blocked, and these include online gambling sites. even the ones where it's just 'play money' and the only thing you accumulate is points. (Ebaums World is the one I have in mind, the site is still open but you can't play poker - its been blocked)
Bahrain is only a small island, but there is an enormous ex-pat community here, not to mention the American military installations here. All the kids, both ex-pats and Bahraini, are into computer games etc (My cousin lives here with his two children and they are online-game mad) How many people from Bahrain are actually playing "The West" I wouldnt have a clue.
But look further than Bahrain - Qatar, Oman, Jordan, Kuwait, Dubai, all the UAE countries - that could be a lot of people. Even Saudi Arabia, (though the internet there is so appaulingly slow). All these countries plus huge ex-pat communities could be blocked if the authorities trace 'gambling' or 'poker' all the way back to "The West"
Sorry if this isn't positive sounding, but as someone going to the Middle East regularly and an avid gamer myself, I felt it well worth pointing out.
