i think its a great idea i had the same myself but i think it would be cool if you could do it while your guy is working just to help pass the time. and i sure do like takin peoples money at the holdem table. I totaly think they should put it on here.

Great idea, but could you imagine how unbalanced it would be if we could easily 'give' each other thier dollars..

Someone has probably mention it already but if anything; a seperate 'chips' currency, maybe earned with luck jobs (un-bank-able and lost in duels? ;) could work.

This wouldn't be illegal due to the fact that tangible currency is not involved as mentioned earlier. Although imo the poker houses should be strictly outside of towns, maybe 2 per continent or something. Imagine if every town had its own poker house, getting a game together would be nearly impossible.

Gulf States

Personally I think this is an absolutely terrific idea and quote one of the early posts "a game within a game". I admit that I have not read the entire thread so apologies if this has already been touched upon.

I would like to point out something here that could have the potential to lock out a huge amount of players of any age.

I'm currently working in Bahrain in the Middle East. Bahrain is considered to be one of the more free and liberal-minded nations in the Gulf community, but they are moving towards free elections here now, and already there are some 'hardliners' at the helm. Since my last trip here in May/June of this year, my return at the end of August was met with an impression of huge changes and restrictions.
Many of these changes are affecting what people can and can't do on the internet, many sites are blocked, and these include online gambling sites. even the ones where it's just 'play money' and the only thing you accumulate is points. (Ebaums World is the one I have in mind, the site is still open but you can't play poker - its been blocked)

Bahrain is only a small island, but there is an enormous ex-pat community here, not to mention the American military installations here. All the kids, both ex-pats and Bahraini, are into computer games etc (My cousin lives here with his two children and they are online-game mad) How many people from Bahrain are actually playing "The West" I wouldnt have a clue.

But look further than Bahrain - Qatar, Oman, Jordan, Kuwait, Dubai, all the UAE countries - that could be a lot of people. Even Saudi Arabia, (though the internet there is so appaulingly slow). All these countries plus huge ex-pat communities could be blocked if the authorities trace 'gambling' or 'poker' all the way back to "The West"

Sorry if this isn't positive sounding, but as someone going to the Middle East regularly and an avid gamer myself, I felt it well worth pointing out.

But this is a family friendly game.
If the site gets blocked, all it'll take is an honest explanation in an e-mail, right?

I watched Maverick a couple of nights ago, and I just wondered now:
Will there be gambling related quests and items and skills and whatever?
(no, I haven't read this topic either.)

Yeah I know - I'm a poker player myself and at the end of the day it is just a game. It does beg the question how far would the hardliners go? Would they stop all gaming online?

When you get the 'This site is blocked' page there is a link to contact to say why that site shouldnt be blocked. But the officialdom/bureaucracy here is a nightmare and painfully slow and I doubt anyone would get it unblocked to be honest. It would be worth a go.
Countries other than Bahrain I can't speak much of, but imagine its very similar

This is what you get

I don't like web blocking, it's not worth the risk of false positives.

So, we were talking about poker houses?
If you want to talk about censorship there's always the debate and discussion forum...

DeletedUser16283

The debate is about adding poker games to The West. But I dont think the developers would be very pleased if they suddenly lost shed-loads of customers because of censorship in the Gulf states regarding poker, so thought it might be worth mentioning that's all.
But as I said, I have no idea how many players nationals or ex-pats would be playing this. It's certainly popular and is advertized on plenty of Bahraini websites so I'd imagine its a respectable number. it didn't take the authorities long to discover the poker on Ebaums World, so it probably wouldn't take them long to find it in The West either

This is completely false, there would be no legal tender involved in the "Poker Houses" created. This means your playing poker for completely fake money, where no one creates revenue thus making it "The West" friendly. I saw someone mention this idea may be frowned upon by a couple individuals, but thats about it, it can only be frowned upon.

It's like....having sex on an airplane, it's not illegal, it's JUST FROWNED UPON.

and the authorities have much better things to do than involve themselves on a free2play game that "MAY" involve playing cards for fake cash in the future.

Its NOT false its a FACT! You obviously haven't read this thread properly. It covers ALL forms of gambling for money or not!
Look at the address bar

Hold on, I'm confused.
Does this thread advocate gambling for real money, like gold nuggets and such,
or do these censors censor all gambling, including gambling without monetary value?

DeletedUser16283

This thread is not talking about real-money poker being added to the West, just the poker game, played for points, imaginary money, in-game money whatever you want to call it.
The censors however, are blocking ALL sites where the game "Poker" is played regardless of whether or not its for real money, pretend/in-game money, or just chips (Like Pokerstars - where you win chips and there is not even a mention of money or any $ signs) Its just as though they dont like the game itself

DeletedUser14280

I presume that these censors block other gambling references as well?

Gambling appears in just about EVERY game in the world, if you want to count random number generators.

Seems a little bit pointless to block poker, from that view?

Pokerstars is a site that was created to play for "REAL" cash. Yeah it has a "play chips" feature but come on, people go on pokerstars to play for cash, whether its for fun, a hobby, or a career. If you want to play poker for free cash might as well just go to pogo.com or something......be serious.....

and I have read the thread. They really can't block the west for having a card game built in. Well unless you don't pay for you're own internet, and access it via library.
