It has come to our attention that recently there has been some issues that have arisen from misunderstandings in our disciplinary system on The West Forum. This thread will be here as a resource to help posters understand the system more and avoid these conflicts.

Notices
Notices are not the same as infractions, they are designed to inform players that they have broken a rule. When you receive a notice for a post you are not in trouble, it simply means will be expected to follow the rule from that point onwards. In most cases you will receive one notice for every type of rule you break, however serious offences will receive straight up infractions. Notices may also be given for minor offences where infractions are deemed to be unnecessary.

Infractions

Old
Infractions are the lowest level of punishment on our forum. Infractions are given out for breaking a rule in a post, private message or reputation message and should be a serious reminder to players to review their posting habits. Every time you receive an infraction you are given one "point" that will expire after ten days. Should you accumulate four points at once you will be temporarily banned until one of your points expires.

Every time you receive an infraction you are given any amount of "points" depending on the offence that will expire after twelve months. Should you accumulate so many points at once you will be temporarily banned for a set period of time. Any temporary forum ban can be appealed through the Support System.

Dynamic Infractions

Old
The dynamic infraction system is an extension to a normal infraction. If you receive an infraction whilst you already have an active infraction for breaking the same rule, the newest infraction will take longer to expire. For example you have an infraction for spam that will expire in five days and you get infracted for spam again. Your first infraction will still expire in five days however the new infraction will now expire in 15 instead of 10 days. The dynamic infraction system aims to remove trouble makers from the forum who choose to ignore the rules. If you listen to the moderators and learn from your notices you should never have to receive a dynamic infraction.

New
The dynamic infraction system has been disabled in the new infraction system. If a user repeatedly breaks the same rules repeatedly they will suffer the probation system instead.

Probation & Bans
Probations & Bans are rare and almost impossible to obtain by accident.

Old
If the moderation team feels that a player is unwilling or unable to positively contribute to the community we will place their account on probation. An account on probation receives three (or occasionally two) points on their account that will only expire after three months. This means every infraction during this time will result in a ten day ban. If we feel the player is still unwilling to co-operate then a lengthy or permanent ban will be enforced. Any temporary forum ban can be appealed through the Support System.

New
Once you receive ten active points, your account will automatically be banned for one month. The next stage is twenty active points, which shall result in a two month ban. From this point onwards is the most serious level of probation and is a final notice to users to change their posting habits. At this stage a further ten active points, i.e. thirty active points, will result in a permanent ban. This cannot be appealed. Please note we reserve the right to manually ban troublesome accounts at any time for any reason.
