Basically, when you consume poisonous alcohol your body converts it into a chemical called acetaldehyde. This is mostly done by your liver but the mouth, gut and colon bacteria can also convert it. Acetaldehyde can cause cancer by damaging your DNA and stopping your cells from repairing this damage. Believe it or not our DNA is damaged a quintillion times daily. Most of the time your body repairs the damage and just keeps truckin'. Remember that acetaldehyde stops your cells from repairing. On a side note, even moderate imbibing can disrupt the gut barrier and frequent imbibing damages macrophage, T and C cells. These three cells comprise the front line defense of our immune system.
