As they told you in the tutorial, Picking tobacco is a good way to make money till you can do something else (Just work 2 hours at a time, and trade with picking cotton/mucking stables/picking sugar etc when your motivation drops below 90)- After that, just look for jobs with high money%'s that you can do. All the jobs are listed at weststats and some other websites, so you can plan your character if you want to.
