*The following skill distribution statistics are for dueling and not for jobs.

*Please notice I have provided 2 recommendations for each regular dueler build.

*Skills that are not one of the “main” skills are not listed for each build.

*Attribute/Skills Points received from quests are not included.

*Dueling gear is NOT included in the calculations! The following numbers would be your "base" stats.

*The following assumes you have the best possible gear for your build.

*Please be aware that some builds are probably better than others. The following just lists various proper builds, not which one is better than another.

*You don't need to follow the numbers exactly as they are. Being in the general range should be fine.

*To calculate based on my percentages, you need to take your level and multiply it by 3 to get your total SP, and take your level for the total AP. Then multiply those numbers by the percentages I suggested to determine how many points you should have in each skill.

    Character Classes: Dueler vs. Soldier

    Dueler Advantages:
    • The speed on the map is increased by 10%. - Who Cares
    • The motivation for dueling raises faster. It is increased 20% faster. - Big Deal
    • You receive 10% more money in a duel. - ooo 1 more dollar!

    Soldier Advantages:
    • For each skill point given to the skill health points you receive an additional 5 health points for your character. - Thumbs Up
    • The level needed to use a weapon is lowered by 3 levels. - Hell Yes!
    • In duels you receive a bonus of 50% to your tactic skill. - It's Christmas!
    Soldier Class > Dueler Class

How to defeat Resistance Duelers (Getting Updated)

    To defeat a resistance dueler:

    • Have very high vigor/shooting, probably at least double your opponent’s toughness or reflex. No one knows the damage formula.
    • Have high dodge and hope to dodge each round, but make sure to have enough aim and shooting/vigor so you can hit at least once when attacking. When defending, hope they miss every round.
    • Have high tactics if defending. High enough tactics would potentially cause a resistance dueler to miss every round.
    • Become a resistance dueler yourself. The jobs are fairly decent. By level 70, Luck jobs include Firefighter, Evangelizing, Transport Ammo, Trading with Indians, Grave Robber. Money jobs include Drilling for Oil, Silver Mining, Iron Mining. Experience jobs include perhaps Constructing Manor-House, Constructing Ranch House, Evangelizing.

The following are alternate set-ups derived from the the original builds in the first post. Some of these builds are just variations of the above, while others are actually better. I have made minor notes after each build to indicate the gains/losses compared to the original. Also, please be aware it's assumed you picked the soldier class for the builds that use appearance/tactics. Please keep in mind that these builds are only guides to a strong dueling set-up. It's not necessarily advised that you copy them exactly as they are. They will guide you to where your skills should be, and you need to adjust them on your own based on your situation and/or your gear.

    Dueling FAQ’s

Please read Denisero’s dueling starter guide for basic information.

How is the dueling level calculated?

What is the most important dueling skill?
There isn’t one skill that stands alone as most important. Dueling requires a combination of skills.

Can I duel a banned player?
Yes, until that player’s account is deleted.

What happens to me when I get KO’d?
You lose all of your money and energy. You are automatically returned to your town to sleep in the highest level hotel.

    What’s better? Melee or Range?
Neither one is better. Both are equal. It’s up to players’ opinions.

Are the left hand weapons (guns) used in duels?
No. A left handed weapon (gun) is used only for fort battles.

    Can other players duel me?
Yes. As long as you are in a town, not sleeping, and not KO’d, and not at a fort after signing up for a battle, you can be dueled.

How do I avoid being dueled?
Leave town or go on 48 hour KO.

Someone dueled me, beat me, and gained 0 Exp. How is that possible?
The player who dueled you is a zero motivation dueler, which means they duel for no experience. They can duel you because with 100% motivation, they would gain experience from beating you.

I’m in a town, but I can’t duel other players. Is this a bug?
No, you need to have the mortician constructed in your town.

I want to duel, but when I look at another town’s saloon, it says “duel not possible for 48 hours” next to everyone’s name! What’s going on?
You are KO’d, so you cannot duel anyone and will see the same message in every single saloon until you come off of 48 Hour KO.

Is there such a thing as dueling etiquette in-game, where i'm not allowed to duel workers/adventurers?
No. You can duel whoever you want.

I'll add more as I find more or if you know of any, please post. Thank you.

I moved the discussion of the guide to a new thread and locked it, if anyone wants to see it for anything, so he could organize the thread as he wanted it.

    Minor Updates:
I have completed the "how to defeat resistance duelers section"
I tweaked some percentages and numbers for the regular range build.
    Added a bit more color.

It would be nice if any and all dueling questions are posted here instead of in the general section so I can add them to the dueling FAQ's.

If anyone would like me to cover and address any other dueling topics, please post and I will do my best to put something together. I will only be around for 10 more days until I leave from full-time to part-time playing, and it'll be rare to see me around on the forums anymore, so catch me while you still can ;)

Just a bump for you to incorporate the new duelling tweaks in version 1.22 when it comes out.

Makes things a lot harder for resistance duellers and benefits those who decide to sacrifice jobs by pumping aim/dodge to good effect.

Your calculations and skill distributions for all the types are pretty accurate by the way.

My build (or previous before i gave up duelling) is not quite right but cant give that away :p

Yea I guess i'll have to recalculate the numbers for resistance duelers, but I think the devs are going to end up overturning the change and maybe introduce something else perhaps. Someone brought it up in the beta forums, so we'll see.

Your build was quite good if I remember correctly :p

    Regarding Best Gear.

Shouldn't "Quarter Horse" be added [and perhaps Indian set] should be added???

The faster you can get from base to the enemy town & back, the less time the enemy has to duel you. [Indian set minus mustang is fastest way to travel].

Also have you done any research into the Charlatan / Indian / Mexican sets regarding dueling bonuses??? Mexican set gives "good" bonuses EARLY in the game, while Indian set includes LOTS of dodging.

I think he is aware of those sets. This is his guide. You don't need to follow it. It just shows people how to distribute there points and wat the best gear is. Not the best set for dueling is. Although i will agree with you on the indian set and the charlatan set both has some very nice bonuses.

Quarter Horse? This is for dueling, not traveling speed.

The charlatan set does give good bonuses, but only if you have the entire set, which isn't worth using in a duel. The other two sets are weak for dueling. Do you really see duelers walking around with the Mexican set and Indian set on to duel other players? This guide if for overall dueling.

your guide is amazing...you've put in loads of time into making it!

i've a doubt, can you oblige?
i am thinking of going with 5 skills in one world

    - Shooting, aim, appearance, dodging and health

what do you think of this combination?
will it help me a lot, to be a perfect dueler?

    thanks!

Thanks. It's here to help. I only spent like 6 hours on it...

I really don't think you should put points into Health...
Eventually, when you can afford all the best gear, you'll get some health bonuses from the gear. And if you choose a soldier class, you'll get an extra HP bonus.

If you really want the HP, maybe you could consider putting half and half into Tactics and HP, but that might spread you out too much. I really would not recommend putting any skill points into health to go straight to the point.

    Thanks!

i'm going to change my plans...unfortunately, i choose dueling class, before i read your guide :(

if i use 4 skills, now

    High shooting
    High aim
    medium appearance
    medium doding

    will it be enough?

    I'm not really sure.

Maybe you could take a look at the regular range dueler build I provided...
Look at the first skill distribution under Range Dueler (Regular)

    Hi Hot

Great guide, many thanks for that (helped me alot) Im still trying to reallocate points for my guys due to this guide.

One part I am stuck on was the distrubution of points in a Soldier range dueler, ive copied it below, but you say to put AP into most dex and some in mobility but your % guide below it shows Dex and Charisma.

    Im confused sorry

    Thanks in advance

    Range Dueler(Regular - Soldier Class)
Attribute Points: Mostly in Dexterity, Some in Mobility
Skill Points: Dodging, Aim, Shooting, Tactics

    % Distribution 1:
    Attribute Points
    70% Dexterity
    30% Charisma"

    Case Scenario 1: Level 70
    70 AP = 49 Dexterity, 21 Charisma
    210 SP = 94-95 Shooting, 37-38 Aim, 60-61 Dodging, 16-17 Tactics

Charisma is mentioned again there so i guess the advice to put AP into mobility is a mistake.
