Fort Battle Builds Guide 2.0!

Took me long enough eh? Well here it is, the newly updated for 1.30 fort battle guide. It took me a lot of work to do all this today, but it was actually really fun to browse the new clothes and look at their bonuses. I'm really excited about this, as it completely changes the way we thought about fort builds.

First off, the scale that we thought was right when forts came out and I published my first guide, were completely wrong. (No wonder the bonuses weren't so good, and pure HP's owned, as noted by Elmyr)

The new formula is simple - Skill^0.4
(ex you have 32 leadership, 32^0.4= 4)

Now previously we thought stamina was only for attacking, and hiding was only for defending... but guess what? We were wrong there too. Stamina is for shooting, and Hiding is for dodging. You also get a base of 25 towards chance to hit (or 20, i just tested it and got 20 not 25) and a base of 10 to chance to dodge. [Note: this is incorrect, so the bonuses below will be correct. Stamina is attacking only and hiding is defending only. ~Elmyr]

Therefore, the skills are -
Leadership+Aim+Stamina+25=Chance to Hit
Leadership=Dodge=Hiding+10=Chance to Dodge

The formulas are-
Chance to hit=25+aim^0.4+leadership^0.4+stamina^0.4
Chance to dodge=10+dodging^0.4+leadership^0.4+hiding^0.4

If you want a scale, like the old one, there is this:

* +1 bonus with one point
* +2.04 bonus with 6 points
* +3.03 bonus with 16 points
* +4 bonus with 32 points
* +5 bonus with 56 points
* +6 bonus with 88 points
* +7.01 bonus with 130 points
* +8 bonus with 181 points
* +9 bonus with 243 points
* +10 bonus with 316 points

*note* Remember the formula: Skill^0.4

Clothing

Now this time, there is no attacking or defending builds, just shooting vs dodging vs mixed. There's still hp tanks, but facing these new builds they will be less effective than before.

I decided to focus on clothes first, because we cant change clothing bonuses, but we can change our skills. I compiled a list of all clothes and the total fort fighting skills that they have. All players should take a look at this part, as these are the best you can possibly get. I do notice that these have fairly high levels (Mainly the belt) but I have a list of all items and their values for fort fighting. You can substitute them as you wish, but I use the top clothes in my builds.

The Builds

Note that I used my best clothes as a base, so these skill spreads might be interestingly distributed.

All Around Build

This should be the main build for everyone who fort fights, as it helps with both dodging and aiming. I personally recommend this build.

At the end of either route, with the best clothes, you have a total of:

137 Stamina
149 Health
137 Dodge
137 Hiding
137 Aim
137 Leadership

For a total of 1490 attribute given health (2235 with soldiers bonus, 2980 with premium soldier bonus), shooting bonus of 21.45 (+25 = 46.45) [if it turns out to be 20, 41.45], dodging bonus of 21.45 (+10 = 31.45). I believe that's quite impressive, it doesn't even take tower bonuses!

So either way you do it, with the best items, you get this:

185 Stamina
200 Health
5 Dodge
13 Hiding
184 Aim
185 Leadership

For a total of 2000 attribute given health (3000 with soldiers bonus, 4000 with premium soldier bonus) shooting bonus of 24.17 (+25 = 49.17) [if it turns out to be 20, 44.17], dodging bonus of 12.74 (+10 = 22.74). Not bad if your focused on hitting opponents.

HP Tank
This ones straightforward, eat up hits as you brawl across the map. Only one way to do this one, considering theirs 1 skill

So with bonuses you end up with:

567 Health Points (woah!)
128 Stamina
10 Leadership
8 Aim
8 Dodge
0 Hiding

For a total of 5670 attribute given health (8505 with soldiers bonus, 11340 with premium soldier bonus) shooting bonus of 11.76 (+25 = 36.76) [if it turns out to be 20, 31.76], dodging bonus of 4.80 (+10 = 14.80). So this build can eat approximately... oh... 45 (250 avrg dmg) hits with soldiers premium.

Dodge/Tank Hybrid
This ones still prototypical, and has some mistakes in the build and clothing, but it gives you a good idea and it has a good shot at being a good shot absorber to be used on the point of a tower.

At the end of either path with clothes you will end up with:

14 Stamina
214 Health
204 Dodging
204 Hiding
27 Aim
204 Leadership

For a total of 2140 attribute given health (3210 with soldiers bonus, 4280 with premium soldier bonus) shooting bonus of 14.99 (+25 = 39.99) [if it turns out to be 20, 34.99], dodging bonus of 25.17 (+10 = 35.17).

So there's all the basic build combos, and it doesn't stop there. If you build around clothes, you can take any items and combine their bonuses, then build up their stats to be the best possible with those clothes.

Classes
Now with the new class bonuses, the games been changed a little bit (no longer a soldierfest) Here's how to choose your class:
Adventurer: Only really useful when your a dodge person who takes point all the time, and even then health might be of more worth.
Worker: This is best for anyone who spends a lot of time in towers, considering you can have incredible bonuses when your on your classes tower.
Soldier: Best for HP tanks and most players, gives more health and you can use better weapons earlier.
Dueler: If you want a 1/10 shot of hitting a little more damage, take this, but it's easily the worst of the 4 classes.

I really did work hard making this, but it was really quite fun to do. I hope this ends up helping quite a few people, and that it helps change the way fort battles are fought. Good luck ~ Sauceysauce

Just one observation... when you list items and their bonuses for Fort Fights you just add their bonuses without taking into account what skill they improve.

Going by that Nat's Machette, Tomahawk, Sharp Tomahawk and Athos' Foil all have the same bonus [+6] so they appear to be of equal value to fort fighter. But Athos' Foil have +6 Stamina which only help with Shooting, while Tomahawk and Sharp Tomahawk have +3 Dodge & Hiding which only help with Dodging. At the same time Nat's Machette have +6 Leadership which help BOTH Shooting and Dodging making it far superior and best choice.

And since Leadership is most valuable skill for Fort Fighter [followed by Health] maybe you should consider treating Leadership the same way you treated Health in your guide.

But other than that minor observation... GREAT JOB! Excelent guide which will deffinatelly help alot to future fort fighters.

OMG Saucey when will I make enough time to read it completely?! :)

Well, players wanted a cookbook with recipes, you made one. Thanks.

A few things are off, but I think this one really needs to get fixed as it affects too many things:
Stamina is for shooting, and Hiding is for dodging.
...stamina is still for attacking and hiding is still for defending.

Anyways, thanks for taking your time to write this.

It's a nice guide, and you can see my opinion of it in the poll.

One thing I wondered about though, how did you actually test this? Both the stam/hiding thing and the base bonus.
...
Now previously we thought stamina was only for attacking, and hiding was only for defending... but guess what? We were wrong there too. Stamina is for shooting, and Hiding is for dodging. You also get a base of 25 towards chance to hit (or 20, i just tested it and got 20 not 25) and a base of 10 to chance to dodge.
...

DeletedUser

Sly it's not correct as gaga already noticed. If you're attacking, stamina bonus adds to both hitchance and dodgechance, but hiding is not used. But if you're defending, then hiding affect chances to dodge and hit, but stamina is ignored.
I took some time ro read it (not thoroughly) and I've noticed that a build I use on w12 is not there, hehe, but no matter, you'll never find a cookbook with all existing recipes inside, right? ;)
This is a good guide, although... HP monsters are still effective on worlds without (enough) duelers. ;)

I tested it in a maneuver battle on my own, but ill try it again and see if hiding does add any effect to dodge when attacking and vise versa (I had 0 hiding at the time lol, sorry, just re-speced)

I did miss some builds, but I rushed to get this out a little quicker, and it's already quite long.

Yep, Gaga is right.

Anyway, few minor things, but there's always stuff in this big of a guide that can be corrected. Good job Saucey.

Wow, all this is really impressive work!!

Please give us the heads up when you find out for sure how stamina and hiding works, okay?

DeletedUser25707

Just tested it at actual attack... Attack and Defense figures I calculated myself using your formula and Stamina for both were the same game showed during fort fight [and it's +25 for Attack]. Didn't try it at actual defense yet but I believe it will use Hiding instead of Stamina for both.

DeletedUser6914

Which means it was correct all along, just as it was then?

Ah well.....

Skills used were correct but bonuses you get from them [and they are what really matter] were completely off... this bonus scale is correct.

Yeah, but the big thing about this thread was how the skills were used. And when it seems they were correct anyhow, the builds posted are a bit off and whatever the total bonuses are we will still use the same equipment as before. :)

DeletedUser

You will not use the same equipment as before.
While defending if your hiding is low, you will use moccasins+mustang+blue pistol belt (IICC hiding boosted +36). If your hiding is not low, then you won't use that combo, but something that adds to things you don't have high.
However, while attacking since you don't need hiding at all you should use donkey+sandals+green pistol belt.
If your level is too low for those pistol belts (example - you're zero mot duelist), fancy eagle belt or calamity are probably the best belts you can use.

Other equipment, does it depend if you're attacking or defending? I think not. No matter if I'm red or blue, I use these:
1. Fancy felt hat
2. Brown tie
3. Black dress coat
4. Thy rocket
5. Tomahawk vulgaris till if lucky you get the gold set (ok, only on one world, on another I have Allen pepperbox)

That's only my opinion ofc, you may do otherwise.

and how is this different from before?

DeletedUser

Before this you had a belt? Awsome. I did not.
Also, before new formulas I used HP bonus items, didn't care for skills.

DeletedUser23701

...stamina is still for attacking and hiding is still for defending.

if you remember, zet then haven't gave answer in his dev post.
tbh stamina for aim only would explain why STR based players hit with same ratio in attack/defense having no hiding. Towers are giving good bonus, but still.
Suppose easily testable on beta with premium.

DeletedUser20647

Oh, he did, but not in the comments section. He made a new post correcting his mistake, it's the post right after the one where the calculations are explained for the first time.

Thank you for your guide, but your information does not coincide with what developer said:
http://devblog.the-west.net/?p=402&lang=en

...
On the last bugfix I wrote that the shooting attempt in the battle uses only aiming and leadership. This is wrong – it also uses endurance or hiding, depending on what side you play on. ...

If this is right - all your guide is based on wrong premises and needs to be fixed from the start.

And its possible to calculate exact formulas from this developers post yourself:
http://devblog.the-west.net/?p=390&lang=en
