Final Destination: Ad infinitum

"Why don't you watch where you're going? Get some respect." Ilsa yelled at the backs of the pirate work party, armoured and armed with low velocity shotguns and were those stun rifles? On their hoverlitter was mounted a strange machine with tubes filled with green liquid. Whatever it was, didn't seem to be very harmful to anybody. After getting a fair bit away from the very rude working party, the regular routine of living amongst pirates (if only the life was as good as Gorillas in the Mist) began again. Ignoring the lazy pirate illegitimates, Ilsa headed to the Gnat (maybe the name should be changed to Rogue Tamish Trader [RTT] Gnat). "Byte, find the best way to get onto the Exchange battleship without being seen." As Byte had been doing lately, he silently nodded and sent Ilsa a route on her PC. "Thanks. And talk more. Your new silence is depressing."

As Ilsa prepared to alight back to the hanger, the station's general alarm sounded. "Lone vessel attacking space station. All warships protect the new acquisition. All cargo ships remain in hangers." Ilsa snorted at the announcement. "Byte, let's get out of here." With a nod, Byte replied, "Aye aye, ma'am. What flag should we fly?" That was a good question. The enemy was unknown, so it would be best to fly a flag that didn't have any major enemies. Someplace usually far away. "Set our SIS (ship identification signal) to Muspel Colony. Nobody hates them." As Ilsa flew the Gnat out of the hanger, Byte asked, "Where to now? Ivan and Marya haven't been able to patch the engine for long travel. We can't even get to the next star." Ilsa sighed. She had forgotten that they hadn't bought the parts needed to fix the Gnat yet. "Fine. Get to any other planet here. Away from the fighting. I'll probe tomorrow, make sure the station is still here, or scavenge what parts we need from the wreckage. I'll be fine in the power armour. I can survive a few days out there, if I replace the weapons with water storage."

Everything was happening in a blur for Nelx. She had entered area that Xane had asked her to, and now she was being propelled forwards through space thanks to the momentum that the catapult had given her. Before she had been launched off, Xane had given instructions to Ghor and herself to look after the breachers that were going to infiltrate the main station. Now though, she was hearing over the com-link that she had to take care of those nimble fighters around the main station as well as protecting the two breacher pods. Now this would be interesting. It would test how well she could cope under pressure, and also prove to Dante that she wasn't a measly tourist, like he thought that she was. "Affirmative Captain Xane!" Nelx yelled over her com-link.

Looking around the area, Nelx surveyed the battle field through Sarixa's eyes. She would need to work together with Ghor to protect herself from fire coming from that station... Calling over the com-link to Ghor, she hoped that he wasn't in that bad mood again... His mech did rather seem to have a strange effect on him. "Now Ghoor... Let's dance, shall we? Those fighters will see who's the new groundkeeper round here! Ahahaha!" Releasing a war whoop, Nelx activated the flight mode on Sarixa and angled herself towards the nearest enemy fighter, expecting Ghor to be somewhere near her. This would most certainly be a barrel of fun!

With the orders given Dante nonchalantly follows the rest of his team to the waiting breacher’s where upon entering he gets down upon one knee and with his head down begins muttering the words to a prayer; the words long ago memorised though whether this was another part of his conditioning or not was unclear to him as it didn't feel forced and yet a part of him knew it to be the right think to do under the circumstances.
With the words finished he quickly crosses himself before rising to his feet once again "Ok guys lets lock and load" he said with a broad smile as he pulled his sidearm from his belt and chambered a round "And here’s hoping that damn tourist doesn't get us killed"

With a sudden mechanical motion, Ghor found himself launched into space. He immediately sent a signal to The Savior to finish transforming. In a matter of seconds, the large machine turned itself into a bulky one man spacecraft. He quickly engaged the thrusters and followed Nelx as she did the same for her mech. She asked over the intercom if he was ready to…dance. "Dancing has no place on the battlefield…but I am ready to…announce the change in command. Let's go!" He had The Savior follow Nelx…he'd said he'd draw the fire, and he intended to do just that.

"And here's hoping that damn tourist doesn't get us killed." Chal laughed, deciding that Dante really didn't like Nelx. "Place some face in your team-mate or she might just leave you out to dry in space." He replied back, stifling a laugh after it and suppressing a smile under his face mask. He pulled out his pistols and loaded the thermal clips, slotting them in. He checked his SMG was strapped across his back and then powered up his beam sword for a second, all his weapons were ready, it was time for battle.

Maxwell and his team sat motionless in the breaching pod, weapons readied, cocked, loaded, safeties off. If they had been any less experienced than they were, Maxwell would have launched into his usual run of instructions, shoot straight, shoot to kill, don't take prisoners, don't try to be a hero, don't shoot holes in the hull, keep tight. However everybody in the pod had heard the speech many times before, so he didn't have to repeat it. As soon as the breaching pod hatch opened the team had filed inside, ignoring the jibes and remarks that the other teams made as they exited. They were just mechjocks, they knew nothing. They weren't true professional troopers, however Maxwell would be interested to see how they would stand up for themselves when the fèiwù hit the fan.

Saracen accompanied his team to the pods. "Ok guys lets lock and load. And here’s hoping that damn tourist doesn't get us killed" said Dante upon reaching the pods. "Place some face in your team-mate or she might just leave you out to dry in space." was Chal's reply. Saracen took out both his sabres and kept them in each hand, the sabres were still in handle form. Time to go to work, he thought as he entered his pod.

"More likely she'll do something stupid and get one of us killed" Dante retorted to Chal's statement that he should place more faith in Nelx "...I have more faith in those apes and their combat armour than her, at least they're professional's she's just playing merc and you know it" he continued, returning his sidearm to its holster and watching as the others checked their own weapons a sceptical look appearing on his face at the sight of the beam swords they both wielded "you guys any good with those things? Because last guy I saw use one of those cut his own leg off" a snort of laughter immediately following his anecdote as he remembered the surprised look on the mans face as he done so "Well here’s hoping those schematics are up to date...I'd hate to storm a supply closet" because we’d look really silly up until they shot us

Old Iron moves out of the way as another massive jet of light flies past the carrier, a great pillar of light created by the massive gun that forms the front half of the exchange ship. The nine remaining cruisers also have engaged the Old Iron, clearly outclassed by the Tiran military vessel they appear to have the upper hand due to their numbers and the support given by the large Exchange ship now behind them. Among the cruisers a moving line of orange can be seen dodging the anti-fighter weapons of the cruisers. Xane's mech easily dodges the laser fire but to his disappointment, as well as expectation, his laser rifle proves ineffectual against the cruisers' shields. Noticing the Exchange ship firing its great gun once more he lets out a sharp laugh. "Right, I guess its time for another field test of our reverse engineered Arc reactor. Password, Light of eternity." Warning symbols appear over the view screens as the reactors in the mech are set to full power. Xane's mech's orange output turns white and completely envelopes the mech, in an explosive burst. From out of the ball of light a beam that looks like a scaled down version of the Exchange ships erupts and tears a hole cleanly through the hull of one of the cruisers.
"Arc Reactors at full power, count down activated, shut down in five minutes." The mech's VI states, displaying timers on the view screens that begins to count down. Xane begins to laugh madly as he fires once more into the crippled ship causing it to explode as the reactor violently expands. The mech then blasts off in a beam of light forming bent lines as it rapidly changes direction repeatedly. Three more beams of light erupt from the mech’s rifle, leading to three more cruisers exploding. All fire from the remaining pirate cruisers are now focused on trying to destroy the white mech. Another cruiser explodes as the now ignored assault carrier brings its full force to bear on one of the cruisers. A ball of light explodes on Xane’s position and his mech is thrown out of the explosion missing an arm and no longer producing the white light.
Xane swears as his view screen fills with malfunction codes, the rifle had overloaded, the left arm is gone, the left wing won’t respond, the Arc reactors have been disabled and the back up engine is damaged. “Heh, I got carried away… Still not as good as the originals…” He says opening up a com link to the group “This is Xane, I’m clocking out, there is no change to your current missions.” A second communication channel opens up as soon as he closes his first.
“ That is one scary mech you've got there Xane, I assume you will be returning to our ship?” Richard says to Xane who watches as another cruiser is broken by Old Iron.
“No, I’ll make my way to the space station somehow.”
“Really? Your VI is indicating that you won’t even be able to make half that distance.”
“I can handle it, how about you go back to not getting killed by that big gun okay? I can cope.” Xane says surveying the area for a solution to his problem. The answer comes to him in the shape of a small corvette with an amusing SIS, what would Muspel colony ship be doing at a pirate station any way? He thinks to himself as his crippled but still fast mech bears down on the ship.

The fighters from the space station split off into two groups one group, with ten fighter ships angle towards Team 2. They are equipped with ant-fighter weaponry which consists of spreader lasers and low grade missiles. The rest of the fighters continue towards the Old Iron. This group is made up of ten fighter ships and three bombers. Their initial attack against the Old iron fails with their numbers whittled down to seven fighters and one bomber but the continue to circle the ship.

Destruction lay about the Gnat, creating obstacles and hazards in an ever changing race course. The prize: getting away from this battle in one piece and alive to tell stories to your children. They were doing fine so far; the SIS, or the fact that they were unarmed and heading away from the battle, keeping weapons fire away from the small ship. Byte was expertly piloting the Gnat through the debris field, Ivan and Marya were repairing any damage taken from the stray bits of flotsam managing to make it through the shielding and Byte’s manoeuvring. A very bright light made its way into the cockpit, illuminating Ilsa and Byte in stark, almost fluorescentlike contrast. “What was that, Byte?” Ilsa asked. Byte came up with the answer a moment later. “The Exchange ship has an arc reactor on board. It’s designed to collect the energy produced, and release it all at once. Similar to a capacitor.” This was punctuated by another light, this one less bright. “A miniaturized arc reactor and capacitor,” Byte announced.

A few minutes later, a warning erupts on one of the panels. They were being tracked, and a small object was bearing down on them, fast. “Damaged mech, missing left arm, atmospheric wing and engines damaged, bearing down from 839.13km, 51.313˚, 174.51˚. Closing at 3.3113km per second. Acceleration nearly zero.” Ilsa looked at the mech. It was bright orange, with a strange sparlike projection above its right arm. “Can’t we go faster, Byte?” “Impossible with current loads. Engine is unable to supply more power to thrusters.” Ilsa thought for a moment. “Shut off artificial gravity, switch to emergency lighting, disable galley, anything else you can think of that I can live without, to get more power to thrusters and get out of here. I don’t want that thing to catch us.” Byte silently performed the orders, and as the red lights went on, Ilsa felt the small jerk as the Gnat accelerated forward. Floating to her seat, and buckling in, Ilsa warned Byte, “Remember now, dampeners are off. I can feel the jerk. Don’t put it too high.” The radio was still functioning, luckily, and Ilsa sent a message to the mech on all the Gnat’s transmittable frequencies. “This is the Muspel Colonial Trader Gnat. We are an unarmed trader searching for work. We have no affiliation with any party involved. We ask that you allow us to leave this area of operation in peace.”

The fighters open fire on Nelx and Ghor quickly closing the space between themselves and the mecha. Using their superior forward thrust the fighters try to circle the two mechs trying to hit them in the back.

In the background the two pilots can see the pirate cruisers exploding from laser fire from the old iron and the glowing white dot that is presumably Xane. At the same time a vessel broadcasting a neutral SIS moves away from the pirate space station.

(Don't really have much to say at this point, also yes I did accidentally cause a time disconnect between what Xane and Ilsa are doing and what everyone else is doing.)

The waiting was interminable as he knelt upon the floor of the breacher; his lips moving with silent prayer as he tried his best to ignore the violent rocking motions caused by the explosions outside hoping that the tourist wouldn't screw things up for them too badly "Ok guys, omitting the tourist what do you reckon our odds of pulling his off are?" Dante spoke in order to break the silence. The way he saw it if they actually managed to reach the station then their chances of success were pretty good, after all they were only dealing with pirates. However surviving the trip was another matter entirely and whilst he was trapped within this rocket driven baked bean tin without even the pressurised canopy of Trinity to keep him safe from the vacuum outside his safety was no longer within his hands, and the person whose hands it was in would probably be somewhat dubious as to whether the cybernetic assassin was worthy of his attention after all he hadn't done much to help his home world when all was said and done.

Ghor's entire job in this operation was to take most of the fire off of Nelx…that meant being more visible than she was, and so he opened fire on the incoming ships. He kept to the rapid fire plasma cannons for now, not being entirely precise with his aiming. Any shot that did make contact ate away at the ship it hit, the superheated, super energized substance dissolving the solid matter. If he saw them go after Nelx he'd force them back onto himself by upping the firepower, either with his heat-seeking missiles or, if he REALLY wanted to divert attention, his laser cannon. "Nelx, when you go in, take something out, retreat, and repeat," he ordered over their intercom. "The longer you stay in there, the harder my job is to act as a distraction because they'll notice you killing them and bring their force down on you instead. Got it?"

The fighters were closing in on herself and Ghor, and now Nelx started to feel slightly uneasy... Was this really a good idea? After a moments thought, Nelx concluded. Of course it was, she would become good at what she was doing, no matter what Dantaaay thought about her capabilities. It was time to act, and in an artistic fashion, if that was possible during fighting... Nevertheless, she would try... Ghor gave her instructions via the intercom, to which she responded with an "Affirmative Ghor. Let me at you, you sneaks!"

Activating her high-powered lightsabre, Nelx allowed Sarixa to lose height, causing the mech to drop below the circle of mech. Choosing a craft at random, Nelx propelled Sarixa upwards, firing with her high-powered laser gun at the chosen fighter. Once she had drawn close enough to the craft, Nelx slashed at it with the strong lightsabre attached to Sarixa's left arm. Upon completion of this move, Nelx allowed Sarixa to abruptly lose altitude again, moving a significant distance below the circling ships, before moving upwards to attempt the same maneuver on the next craft, hoping that she had managed to cause enough damage to the first ship to have caused it to dysfunction. Hopefully, Ghor would be covering her from above...

The first fighter falls to Ghor's plasma cannon, having attempted and failed at hitting him with a laser blast. A second fighter falls to Nelx's small mecha, stabbing it clean through a wing and into one of the engines causing it to violently fail. The remaining three fighters are out of range before Nelx can have another go. Having seen the failure of their initial attack the fighters opt to fight at longer range trying to stay away from the two energy signatures as they begin to fire missiles at the two.

Around the Old iron the fighting has ceased as the octopus robots are deployed and quickly dispatch the unshielded fighters and disable the bomber.

The cruisers around the exchange ship now are only dust as the combat over there ends with a large explosion of white light. This explosion is followed by Xane's statement that he is 'clocking out' a few seconds after Xane's statement the signal from his mech disappears.

With the cruisers gone at the fighters destroyed or engaged in combat alarms go off in the two breacher pods as they are loaded into their cannons. The breachers themselves don't have viewing ports so after the sound of the gun launching them all the groups can do is wait. After a few minutes systems on Maxwell's breacher power up as for a few moments the entire structure rapidly heats before the sound of metal hitting metal echoes though the small pod and the heat dissipates. The sound of motors running indicate that the breacher has locked onto the ship and has begun making a hole for itself, the fact that the front of the pod doesn't just open up meaning the Exchange ship has some pretty heavy hull plating.

The ride of the mecha pilots prove to be less eventful as the breacher smashes through the bay doors of one of the hangers, ignoring the energy shield holding the atmosphere inside the station. Exiting the breacher the group finds themselves at the end of the hanger, the breacher having crossed the room and left a path of destruction in its wake. There doesn't appear to be anyone else in the room which seems justified as looking at the non-wrecked ships they all are cargo ships of one fashion or another. Down the hall, connecting the hanger to the rest of the station, footsteps can be heard though whether it is moving towards them or away it is hard to tell.

DeletedUser31931

Chal smiled under his mask as he stepped out of the breacher. He pulled out two laser pistols and checked they were primed. He signalled to Saracen to move to the door of the hall and for Dante to hang back. He moved up behind the wreckage of a ship and peaked round the corner, barely visible, to look down the hallway.

DeletedUser35174

After a bumpy ride to say the least, after the breachers land in what seems to be a hanger, Chal is out first. Nobody was around but footsteps could be heard down the hall, whether coming towards them or away Saracen didn't know. As Chal equips his laser pistols Saracen pulled out both sabres, the purple and red blade emerge out of the hilt without a sound. Chal signaled to Saracen to move towards the door, and for dante to hang back. With a nod he silently sprints towards the door, not sure what to expect around the corner.

As the Gnat shut off non-essential systems and Ilsa attempted to dissuade her pursuer from chasing her the orange mech finally gave out and all energy readings from it ceased. The Gnat continues further away from the mostly ended space battle seemingly unscathed when suddenly Ilsa and everything not bolted down suddenly get knocked over from an unseen force. Byte's only explanation for it is that it was some kind of gravitational anomaly originating from the cargo bay. Video feed from the cargo bay show the orange mech. Its even more damaged than before as the entire lower half of it is gone and it still doesn't have power or a non-powered pilot hatch as evidenced by the hole being cut into it from the inside. After a few more seconds the hatch is kicked the rest of the way off and a man with silver hair jumps out of whats left of the mech in his pilot jumpsuit holding a metal box under one arm and a sword in scabbard in his other. The man after just putting the metal box down on a shelf makes for the exit of the room towards her location, apparently knowledgeable with this kind of ship.

Dante watched with quiet amusement as the Space gypsy moved into position signalling for him to hang back as he did so which was fine by him as he wouldn't be the one catching the first volley of lead. Flipping the selector on his 10mm kinetic energy sidearm to full auto Dante positions himself so that he would have a clean line of sight to the corridor from which the sound of footsteps could be heard. Using his implants, Dante attempts to magnify his hearing in order to determine whether or not the footsteps were coming going whilst slowly advancing with his gun held out in front of him and his left hand held by his side, the palm parallel to the floor with the tiny studs intermittently flashing a pale blue "Lets keep moving boys...oh and if I say get out of the way I recommend you do it" his eyes having already spotted several pieces of debris that would make ideal projectiles should the need arise.

“The pursuer is gone, it has lost its power,” reported Byte. “Good, we can slow down now. Restore gravity and lighting,” Ilsa ordered. Nearly instantly, the floating stopped and the cabin was bathed in white, waveguide channeled laser light. “Byte, what’s the neare….” As the Gnat was violently shaken, and things fell down, Byte reported. “Gravitational anomaly in cargo bay. No ship damage.” Ilsa switched on the CCTV feed to the cargo bay. The top half of the pursuing mech was in the Gnat’s cargo bay. It looked dead, but for a moving white light, maybe an exothermic cutter. After a few seconds of this, the cut metal was kicked open, and a silver haired man with a box and a sword came out, headed for Ilsa’s cabin. “Byte, keep the ship flying toward original destination. Make the parts last as long as possible, and send Ivan and Marya to fix anything that breaks. We need to keep moving.” Ilsa grabbed her sword and revolver and headed out to meet the enemy.
