Drowning Sorrow

While Mohamed was looking at Malta from the window, he heard what Alan said about the suits.( talking to himself) "A tiny miny hole, and your out" then he took a deep breath and said" Ahh...I Wish I didn't come on this mission" Then he took out his Law 66 rockets and wrote his name on them and kissed them, " your the only things I have,"then he went back to his seat and closed his eyes.

(OOC:Is it alright for me to double up as a scout? if not let me know)

Name: Kurt Feldmann
Age: 30
Gender: Male
Race: Caucasiaon
Country: Germany
Class: Recon
Chosen equipment: H&K MP7A1 (With Suppressor and IR Sight), Silenced Glock 10, Flash bangs, Frag Grenades, Smoke Grenades
Description: 6', short blonde hair and pale blue eyes and tanned skin. He has a light athletic build from the years of training he has had whilst serving in the military. On his right arm there is a regimenal tattoo although much of the ink has begun to fade having been bleached by the sun. Across his upper torso there is a long ragged scar, a schrapnel wound received whilst on his first active tour with the KSK
Bio: With a strong military tradition within his family ( "A Feldmann has been every German army since Bismarck as his grandfather would boast") Kurt signed up for the German army at the age of eighteen.
By the age of twenty-three Kurt had risen to the rank of lieutenant doing a tour in Iraq before aplying for a transfer to platoon five of the KSK (Kommando Spezialkräfte). The training had been arduous and many from his class had dropped out but Kurt prevailed and was accepted into the unit.
Now after seven years of active service within the KSK specialising in long range reconaissance Kurt is now considering his retirement from the regiment knowing full well that one day his luck will run out and he'd end up joining the many other Feldmanns before him who had died for his country.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kurt sat quietly in the back of the Huey, listening intently to his commanding officer as he went over the plan once more even though he'd had it memorised for hours now.

"I wish to know why we're wearing these suits? Do we even have confirmation on poisonous substances within the area?" the Irishman complained was he Irish or Scottish? Kurt couldn't remember, he struggled to differentiate between all the British accents and he'd only met the man a short while ago in Sicily with the rest of his new comrades "Ja, do we really need these damn things, I am cooking in here" Kurt asked in a strong German accent, breaking his silence, he could already feel sweat running down his face inside the suits helmet, Kurt to quietly reminded himself to reaply the cam cream if and when he was allowed to remove the suit it would be no good having streaks of white showing through.
The team leader...Andrezj was it? promptly answered the medics question, nodding his head in sullen obediance Kurt preceded to watch the blackened countryside flash past them, noting how there was more and more buildings appearing, it wouldn't be long now till they reached Valetta and once there they could begin to fathom what had happened here once and for all.

Alan placed his kit on his lap, and began to examine the kit and check the instruments. "I'll go out first and examine the air for chemicals, and then come back and advise you guys on what to do", Alan muttered while in deep concentration on one of his instruments. His air liquidizer was filling with water very quickly. "Sir, we have a large leak in this vehicle right now!" Alan warned while he examined the walls for any sign of a leak.

OOC: My, I have a lot of catching up to do! By the way, braetwalda, it's perfectly fine .
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Calm down, everybody, calm down", Andrzej said to the choir of commandos asking for information. "For the 1,002nd time now, we have absolutely no idea what's causing the blackout. Furthermore, we have no air support at the moment other than the routine supply drops. High Command will be able to provide some extra firepower if we need it, but for the time being, we're assuming we won't." He heard Alan go on with something about a leak and replied, "do whatever you can with it. Even if there is something in the air, it shouldn't be a problem as long as we have our suits on."

With that, he looked out at the rolling landscape beneath them. The land looked strangely ominous in a way Andrzej couldn't describe. It looked lifeless, with no sign of his fellow man. He didn't know any more than anyone else in the chopper, but he had a feeling they had a right to be nervous. He could feel his pulse pounding in his temples at the chopper descended. He had been on many missions more dangerous then this one, but at least then he had some idea of what was going on. Man has no fear greater than that of the unknown. "Everybody up!", he ordered. "Prepare to disembark in 10... 9... 8..." He started to perspire, and only then noticed how uncomfortable the suit was. "7... 6... 5... 4..." His mouth went dry, and he nearly choked on the last few numbers. "3... 2..." This was it. The ultimate test of his skills. He nearly fainted with anticipation. "1... GO!" he shouted, and the squad jumped from the chopper, weapons at the ready.

They spread out into the open plain in anticipation of an attack in full fury. And then, suddenly, there was silence. There was not the slightest sound from any direction. Not a car in the distance, not a dog's bark, not even the wind whistling in the trees. Andrzej was overcome with dread. He turned to his squad and started giving orders: "it's a short hike to Valletta, and we have all day. Let's get down to business. Kurt, Ben and Jo-Jo, you guys stand guard. The rest of you, let's get busy testing the air and soil." With that, he dropped his backpack and pulled out his testing kit.

DeletedUser22493

Andrê sat down his rifle and backpack next to Andrzej, and pulled out a Toughbook laptop along with some soil analyzing equipment, and neatly placed it on top of the backpack.
Looking over to Andrzej, Andrê said:
"This place gives new meaning to the term dead silent. Let's start with air and soil tests. We'll test the water when we find some."

While collecting soil samples, Andrê turned towards Alan, who was walking around with a hand-held air analyzer. "How does it look Alan?"

DeletedUser24989

While Mohamed was testing the soil by using his 209-51-BASIC-HTPINS, He got up , looked around, and said," Man Oo Man..This place really gives me the creeps. I've been to so many scary places, Done the scariest things ever, But this place is somehow special" He then looked at Andrzej and said," When are we going to move on from doing the soil and air thingy? I wanna see some action man!" Then returned back to testing.

(OOC: Cheers KiTH)

Kurt jumped from the still airborne chopper into the tall grass, scanning his surroundings the moment his feet hit the floor "All Clear!" he announced over the intercomm once he was happy that they were truly alone.
He nodded briefly upon hearing Andrzej's orders, moving south of their current position to crouch down amongst the long grass constantly scanning the surrounding area for any sign of life and finding none.
It was as he scanning the horizon for the second time that he realised that something wasn't right. He'd served in both Bosnia and Kosovo along with several other operations that he wasn't allowed to mention, yet none of them had made him feel so on edge, it was as if he was a different planet...no cars, no street lights there weren't even any rabbits.
A bead of sweat slowly trickled down his forehead, his hand automatically going up to wipe it away only to encounter the suits rubber surface Damn suits! "How are the tests coming along? can we lose the suits?" Kurt asked quietly over the intercomm as well as being hot and sticky Kurt had his doubts as to how quietly he could move in one of these things then again if it stopped him from dying from the effects of nerve gas then he would put up with it.
"Jo-Jo, Ben how are things in your sectors?"he asked his eyes once more searching the darkness for any sign of life.

Hillel disembarked with the rest of the team, and moved to a place of cover immediately. She hunkered down, holding her SMG at low ready, as she scanned her sector. She frowned at the lack of noise and movement, as it was surprisingly disconcerting. She glanced to her right, noting the medic was nearby and doing his thing, and then to her left noting the other scout was doing much of the same.

She voiced her nothing to report over the intercom quietly, and waited for the testing to be completed. She already was bathed in sweat, and they'd barely been on ground for more than five minutes. She was sure she'd be cooler in a desert, when compared to this awful haz suit.

Andrzej scooped an handful of dirt into his testing device. "This is stupid", he thought. "What kind of genocidal substance can only be found in the dirt?" Predictably, the first test showed no sign of any contaminants. "I've got a negative find in the soil", he said, drawing his air testing device. How about you guys?" At that moment, a bead of sweat dripped into his eye, blinding him for a second. He decided right then that if they found nothing in the air, he would relieve his squad of the opressive suits.

DeletedUser22493

.."Soil samples show nothing out the ordinary Sir. Nothing but good old dirt".. Andrê reported to Andrzej.

Alan frowned at his air testing device, and raised an eyebrow when it reported the gases in the air. His device recognized no chemical threat in the air, though there is an odd gas, but it is not lethal. "We can take off our suits now" reported Alan through the intercom. Alan slowly removed his suit, and finally took a deep breath. I'm not dying at least, Alan thought as his lungs sucked in the fresh air.

DeletedUser28032

Upon hearing the all clear Kurt began to remove his suit glad to be rid of its hot and clammy interior, a slight smile played across his lips as he felt a cool breeze brush his cheeks damn that feels good he thought to himself, stepping out of the suits body.
"We should find transport if we're to get to Valletta" Kurt spoke quietly as he smeared dirt across his cheeks hoping to repair the damage his sweat had caused to the camoflage cream covering his face "How do i look?" he asked with a grin turning to look at the other scout. It was as he was doing so that he noticed the small square structures in the distance...a farm maybe? if so then there was a fair chance that it would have a vehicle of some kind and more importantly it could tell them what had happened to the islands inhabitants.
"I think theres a farm over there...We should probably check that out....what do you think Andrezj?" the farm, if it was a farm didn't look to be very far maybe a mile or so cross country, nothing they couldn't handle anyway.

"That's a relief", said Andrzej. "Now we can lose these damned suits." Pulling the heinous garment off his body, he felt an immense sense of relief. "Now that we have the stupid stuff out of the way, we can get on with the real mission. I doubt there's anything interesting about that farm, but we have all day. Let's check it out. Hillel, you're on point. Let's go!"

DeletedUser25825

Hillel heard the all clear from the medic, and shrugged herself out of her gear and hazmat suit. She noted the rest were leaving their suits, so opted to do the same. She idly wondered if this was the fatal flaw in the mission. Other less specialized teams had investigated here, never to be heard from again. She would guess they too probably started taking protective gear as precautionary measures. Maybe they removed the gear, only to be stricken down by some not yet known chemical agent or virus.

Her thoughts were interrupted by a whispering and she glanced over at Kurt. She quickly studied his face, noting the grin, and did not return it. She nodded, and gave a thumbs up to his question. Hillel then looked over her shoulder as Kurt called out a structure to investigate. She stowed her suit behind the cover she'd taken, and heard her orders to move out.

She slung her gear back on, and being ever mindful of noise discipline in her job, tightened down everything that rattled, shook, or clinked. She glanced around at the team, noted they were all prepared, and moved out from her cover. The structure was maybe half a click, but it was all open space on the approach. She hunkered down, keeping her SMG in the low ready position, as she weaved her way back and forth in the direction of the structure. She decided not to do the precautionary pauses that her training was screaming at her to do internally, because if she was to become involved in a fire fight, she and whomever had fallen in behind her would be sitting ducks. She still found the lack of all noise, other than the team behind her, to be very disconcerting. She stopped near a small stone wall, and sank behind it. She edged along its length to the end, pulled out a monocular, and began scanning the area of the building and openings. She whispered, "No contact on the main structure. There's an out building on the other side, which appears to be secured by a padlock. Awaiting orders..."

With the bulky Hazmat suit gone Kurt was able to follow Hillel's quick pace across the open fields. he'd stripped the bulk of his kit, losing his helmet, pack and much of his webbing inorder to make himself as light as possible. His dogtags were taped together along with any other zips or buckles he wore to stop them from clinking and a black wollen cap covered his light blonde hair.
Coming to a stop at a drystone wall Kurt moved silently along its length pausing every so often to scan the farmyard with the infra-red sight mounted on his weapon but like the rest of the countryside the place completely devoid of life.
Edging nearer to Hillel's position he spotted the out building she'd mentioned a few yards away "I am going to check it out cover me" he whispered quickly before dashing across the few yards of open ground to the corner of the building, there were no shots or shouted warnings so he assumed the coast was clear, yet he still walked all the way around the back of the building approaching the door the opposite corner, He'd learnt it was far too easy for a marksman to watch a buildings corner and await their targets return.
With his machine pistol pointed at the farms door he edged his way towards the outbuildings door. He tugged tentavitley at the paddlock and finding it locked solid So much for forcing it he mused quietly to himself "The Farm's deserted but we're going to need a pair of bolt cutters to get into this building" Kurt wasn't going to make the rookie mistake of trying to shoot the lock off...that was a myth all that happend when you did that was that the bullet richocheted...normally into your leg.
Moving to crouch in the shadow of a large water barrel Kurt continued to watch the farm house as he waited for either the engineer to arrive with cutters or further instructions.

DeletedUser24989

After taking his suit off, He took a deep breath and reloaded his Law 66 and equipped himself with the rest of his equipment. Mohamed Looked at Kurt with a smile and said, " Why use cutters? I got some C4's right here... They can open the door for you anytime with no problems." He then looked at Andrzej and said, " Want me to plant a C4 sir?"

Hillel looked at Mohamed and decided she really didn't like this American. She quietly cursed at him in Hebrew, before she calmed herself enough to retort, "Yes. Why don't you attach C4, blow up the lock, and alert anybody who might be on this God forsaken rock exactly where we are after debarkation?" She shook her head, and began muttering in Hebrew once again, as she turned to watch the lane approaching the farm and out building.

Andrzej heard Hillel muttering under her breath. While he didn't speak Hebrew, he could tell whatever she was saying wasn't flattering. He would have to clear this up later. A successful mission must not be compromised by internal strife. "No, let's save the C4 for when we really need it", he responded to Mohamed. "As much as I love a good explosion, we only have so much C4. Cutters will do the job just fine." He then stood by and waited for Andrê to show up.

Crouched in the shadow of the large plastic water barrel that stood a few feet to the left of the door Kurt shook his head in despair at the Americans suggestion "Dumme Amerikaner will, bringt uns noch" he muttered under his breath, he could hear similar mutterings coming from the Israelli scout. Turning his attention back the farm house he began to wonder once again where all the people were? He could think of no feasble way of subduing an entire island without using chemical weapons and yet someone had managed it. it was as he was waiting for the engineer to catch up that a rather grim realisation came upon him "Did we test for radiation?" if a dirty bomb of some kind had been used then it would explain the lack of life and the blackout but it would also mean that even with hazmat suits they would be in serious trouble.

DeletedUser25825

Hillel listened to Kurt's question and quietly responded, "This is like nothing I've ever witnessed. If it were chemical agents, radiation attack, or even some super killer virus... there would be evidence of such. Bodies, even if not human, would be littering the area. There's nothing." She frowned, and decided not to dwell on it. To do otherwise, would cause her to start neglecting her duties of keeping the team forwarned of possible threats.

She wasn't needed for breaching the out building, so she crept forward and laid down near a pile of boulders set up at the edge of the property to gain a better vantage point of the roadway leading away from the farm. She pulled her monocular out once again, cupped her hand over the top to keep from reflecting sunlight, and began scanning anything within range of sight.
