I received the quest to buy a donkey. I bought one, and it shows in my inventory, but when I go to the quest window, it says I don't have one. DO I need to buy a second one?

No you just have to equip the donkey

No, go to your inventory. Then find the Donkey in your Backpack. Then Drag the Donkey in your list..then you are done...
