Nice deter...

Good to see we do have a small impact in the delveopment of this Beta game...

Back on topic: Thanx for promoting me on the merging of this thread with that thread

Though, they are two seperate ideas, they both deal with the maintainance and organization of items in our pack. If we could get either violet or runeneo to re-write a formalized "Put to vote" poll of the two ideas we can move onto the next phase...

ps. see the Development Discussions for a well-written outline of proposal ideas that SDJX22 has written.

Ok thanks for that Gem and Morthy and many apologies for hijacking Violettes' thread inadvertently.
OK well the other thread is a good idea and does fit in with the general concept of updating the backpack. Don't want to overcomplicate Violettes' simple and elegant idea if that is going to make it more difficult to get passed. i guess we need an opinion from the devs/mods on this.

- really wish there is a locker on the hotel T_T

angel, that could be a good idea. a locker room would make another building in the town. like maybe as an add on to the hotel or something. a place to store more items. instead, they could have organization in the locker room, instead of the backpack. you would have to be in your town to sell the items, but most do that anyways.
it could maybe go up to about level 5, and the higher the level, the bigger the lockers. and you could still carry around your most worn clothes in your backpack, as well as new products and items.

Just a quickie, because I have a lot of work to get done today. I think we should keep the ideas simple and should put them forward separately.

1. Compartments
2. Searching
3 Fix Sort order.

I'll try and put together some mockups tonight or tomorrow for the compartments, so we have a good proposal for the devs and they can see what they mean.

If Sammie who posted the original sorting suggestion could start a separate thread on that, incorporating DJs "products sorted by item value" which I hadn't included yet as well, that would be good. Because even if the compartments don't happen, more logical sorting is good. And simple.

And I'll have a look at incorporating the search function when I do the mock ups to make sure that if both get implemented, they will work together. But better to keep them separate and maybe get one, if not both, I think.

xx Vi

I'll try tomorrow. I'm currently in the throes of rebuilding my hard drive after a disk crash so am up to my eyeballs atm between work and cursing overly fragile HDDs.

NOTE: This proposal has been updated to incorporate suggestions and discussions up to 50.

PROBLEM
Some items in your inventory are keepers, and some are being saved for sale when you are ready to make a purchase. As the games goes on, these can get quite numerous when you are saving for expensive gear. Some of your stacks might also be made up of items being saved for later quests as well as ones you want to sell so you always have to double check how many you need to keep.

PROPOSAL
Three separate compartments in the backpack.

1. The Default Compartment
This would contain all new items by default, both clothing and products, that you find or buy. You would leave all the clothing/gear which you regularly equip in this compartment. Items in this compartment can still be sold.

2. The “Safe” Compartment

You would move all products you are saving for later quests to this compartment. Items in this compartment cannot be sold in the stores.

3. The “Sell” Compartment
You would move all unwanted items, both clothing and products, to this compartment so you know exactly what inventory you have to sell. Items in this compartment can be sold.

FUNCTIONALITY

All Compartments
All compartments will display the current total “Sell Value" of their contents.

1. The Default Compartment
~ Inventory Screen Changes ~
This will operate in exactly the same way it does now, with the addition of a pop-up menu (like the one in the store) from which you can select the following…
a. Equip Item
b. Move item to “Safe” Compartment
c. Move item to “Sell” Compartment
These options will have Tick/Cross selectors. The “Move Item” options will contain a number field (again, like the one in the stores) so that you can specify how many items you wish to move to each compartment.

~ Store Screen Changes ~
No Changes.

2. The “Safe” Compartment
~ Inventory Screen Changes ~
Selecting items will bring up the following options, with Tick/Cross selectors and a number field…
a. Move item to Default Compartment
b. Move item to Sell Compartment
~ Store Screen Changes ~
Clicking on an item in this compartment will return an error message: “Items in this compartment can not be sold.”

3. The “Sell” Compartment
~ Inventory Screen Changes ~
Selecting items will bring up the following options, with Tick/Cross selectors and a number field…
a. Move item to Default Compartment
b. Move item to “Safe” Compartment
~ Store Screen Changes ~
Selecting an item will operate in the same way the default compartment does currently.

There will be an additional button in this compartment with the option “Sell All” so that you no longer need to go through each item/stack individually. Clicking this button will pop up a confirmation message with a Tick/Cross selector.

ADDITIONAL INVENTORY IMPROVEMENTS

1. We would like the automatic item sort order to be changed to...

  • Hats
  • Neckwear
  • Clothing
  • Shoes
  • Melee weapons
  • Firearms
  • Mounts
  • Products
2. We would like duplicate clothing/gear items to be stackable.

3. We would like the total sell value of the "Sell" Compartment to be displayed with our Cash and Bank balances on the main screen so that we know our available cash resources at all times.

-------

CREDITS: Thank you to everyonewho has contributed to this discussion. Special thanks to Dj Storm for raising the issue of where new items will go by default, to Eddy51 for suggesting 3 compartments rather than the initial 2 proposed and to Sammie for suggesting gear be stackable and the automatic sort order be improved.

Nice job!!
me'z a likey!!

My oh my... What an unfortunate typo. Lol. :D

But I'm sure there were some Doc Butcher's around back then doing rib removals which have a similar effect so... Plastic surgeons in The West? Plausible. :)

:p bad hand bad keyboard....bad typo.......anyway

im still thinkin what that default compartment is for....cuz well if you dun wanna feel like sellin it...cant you just let it on your safety compartment?

DeletedUser

I agree. I think the 'default' compartment is largely unnecessary. The default state should be to not sell items/equipment, so the 'safe' compartment is where all new items & products should automatically go. It's up to you to 'declutter' it by moving items to the 'sale' compartment.

What could be done is to automate the process by allowing players to define how many of each item is to be kept (default is 1), and any excess over that number is automatically moved to your sale compartment.

DeletedUser1105

I think the automation of that would be a lot of work Sammie, and it needs to be kept quite simple.

I like that summary, it would be good addition. So when you visited a store, the inventory would show the 'sell compartment'?

DeletedUser

Automation could come later; the important thing would be to get the 2 basic compartments set up, but first the sort order needs to be changed and items made stackable (especially if they are going to limit the size of the backpack - I suppose it depends on whether it'll be limited to 30 objects in total or 30 slots).

DeletedUser5046

hmmm...let's see...how about you decide where you wanna put the items...but nah...its a waste of time..the char will still be working and cant decide on its own....

DeletedUser

It's a really good idea, I like it. And now whne thye are planning to put a limit to the itesm you can keep in your backback, there should be that some compartments could hold more than others.

DeletedUser5046

i guess that would be the safety one to be bigger...since it will also hold the uhm 'undecided' items...

DeletedUser

The reason the safe compartment was added instead of just the Default and the Sell was so that you don't have to double check all your safe items again to find the new sell ones. The default would only contain unsorted items (and your gear) so you only have to go through what is there.

Still have lots of work at the mo, but will get to mockups asap.

DeletedUser

Yes, but you would only have to do that when you find an item or product - and you've just read the report so that would be easy. Have the default compartment for a later addition. Besides, with the suggestion that the backpack is going to be limited, this could probably be moot.

Thinking about it, with a limited backpack, your 'personal' backpack will be the default. Any town storage compartment could have the safe & sell compartments.

DeletedUser

Okay - I've thrown some mockups together finally and have posted them in the proposal. You'll have to excuse my not-very-pretty navigation buttons. I'm a little lazy. :)

I don't think the question of whether there should be 2 or 3 compartments has been resolved. I'll go back through the thread when I get a chance and see if there is a clear majority either way.

Again, if anyone thinks the functionality needs to be altered...fire away. :)
