Just like InnoGames doesn't allow us to link to games that they don't own and operate.

Uhm, just like I don't let other people link other userscripts on my thread? That's because I don't want to advertise other userscripts. Same thing with InnoGames, they don't want to advertise any other game :p.
Get over it, nobody needs permission to link a youtube video. You were asked for some documentation and you have failed to provide any. Also, I bet you're really fun at parties :njub:

Innogames not allowing you to link to games they don't operate has nothing to do with copyright, they just don't want you to advertise them, that's purely a business decision.

You could read this, for starters: http://www.dmlp.org/legal-guide/linking-copyrighted-materials

And did you get Rick's permission? Where was the notice of it not be Innogames property?

Again, what does that have to do with legal issues? Innogames used a video within their game, without permission.
And what is up with your constant personal attacks? Lacking self-esteem? Just a bully on a powertrip? Or just plain dumb? Incase you don't know what you are talking about, here is a hint: Be quite!

Except they did not "use" it, they just linked it, therefore giving full credits to whoever put the 9y/o video (Also considered "the original RickRoll" video) on YouTube. You are allowed to link whatever you want, no matter who you are. They would get in trouble if they hosted the video themselves or they would re-upload it and then link it to you. You're even allowed to embed the video on your webpage, as long as you don't claim you made the video.

Speaking of personal attacks... It's just amazing seeing someone so triggered over a company linking you to a Rick Roll. Do you even know the meaning of that video?

You are still responsible for distribution, and unless you made sure that the upload i legal, you can be held accountable for the spreading of the illegal knowledge. Did you make sure the upload is legal?

And you actually claimed ownership over the video by linking to it, without a notice that it was a link, and that InnoGames did not own it. Remember one thing: Logic and legal are two very different things.
And did you make sure it was clean?

YouTube is responsible for distribution, whether it was clean and the ownership is clearly stated on whomever uploaded that video(cotter548) not the ones who linked it.

If innogames linked such video, the owner would be insanely happier with the extra views since it generates profit for him.

If inno made such business deal, they didn't have to at all and just wasted it.

If the video had a copyright infringement and the true owner had claimed such a thing. The company who's hosting the video are the ones responsible and YouTube had taken action against copyright infringements even if it was music in a video game(which they decided to recline not to do due to video companies want free advertising which is very logical since the gamers never said that they owned those game music)

I still wonder why Anzian never replied to me.

And distribution does indeed hold you accountable but not in all countries.

A case in Denmark was made about popcorn time(A known pirated movies app to use to watch movies and shows which was awesome. This was very legal in my country only if you were using for personal entertainment and not for commercial gain)

This doesn't apply to companies like YouTube which is owned by Google(very legal company except for tax evasions)

If you think the video is illegal, you should report it in YouTube which is available.

Ahem.... I was just thrilled to finally have the opportunity to become a disciple of The Almighty Brown Tie.

Now, as I'm sure someone, somewhere, has already said something like that, I'm plagiarizing, but I'll take my chances in a rabbit court of law with a jury of my peer toons :)

Not guilty.

I am a proud owner of one of futu's ties ;)

I hope they hand out The One True Onion next year.

As do I, Will.

Please do a complete and thorough legal research before referring to "The One True Onion" as the "The One True Onion" again, as referring to it as such could result in copy right and trademark and patent and distribution and who knows what else kind of infringement threats.

Just trying to stave off a few toons of a game getting their panties in a wad over a game.

:D

I'm not too fond of getting involved in this, but since I'm watching someone get bullied over something he/she might have right I felt the need to.

I can only talk about what goes for Swedish rules, but if you use a piece of art in any way without giving the proper credits it's considered claiming ownership (or more like, since you didn't give credit you're trying to make people think it's yours) and it would be against the policies of most websites not to mention copyright infringment. There's a case that went to court where a company used specifically a youtube video clip in a commercial without giving credit (or having cleared with owner beforehand) and they lost in court and had to pay the owner + the owner of the music a fine and were forced to remove the advert.

Again, it might not be the same in all countries, but you're all bullying him/her over something that holds true in some (perhaps most?) countries.

A piece of art is not used though, it's only linked to. If I post a link here to an image on deviantart, would that be copyright infringement?

DeletedUser34295

I agree that I wouldn't call linking an image copyright infringement. All I'm saying though is that it isn't very nice to bully someone who might have valid concerns on what was going on.

Deep Linking: The most straightforward case is so-called "deep linking," which refers to placing a link on your site that leads to a particular page within another site (i.e., other than its homepage). No court has ever found that deep linking to another website constitutes copyright or trademark infringement. Therefore, you can link to other websites without serious concerns about legal liability for the link itself, with the exception of activities that might be contributory copyright infringement or trafficking in circumvention technology (discussed below).

The situation changes when you knowingly link to works that clearly infringe somebody's copyright, like pirated music files or video clips of commercially distributed movies and music videos. In this situation, you might be liable for what is known as "contributory copyright infringement."

Clearly not legal linking copyright music videos however there is a grey area known as the Fair Use Doctrine which allows you to link for such purposes as education, criticism, news reporting and even parody, given the Rick Astley video in question, criticism and parody fit the Fair Use Doctrine for sure so I don't think Inno will receive a copyright infringement from the publishing company anytime soon.

Glad we're getting this all worked out....

Where's our EN cross-server Adventure event and challenge?

Wait.... The Adventure server is still down :(
