RP Discussion An RP's downfall.

DeletedUser

I've noticed a strange occurence in the RP section.

A RP will start like this:
• A moderate number of people join a thread.
• Thread goes okay for a week or two, one or two RPers are lost.
• Suddenly, only 3 or 2 people RP in the thread.
A• Those people keep the thread going before giving up on it.
B• One or two people join, but post only once.
B(cont.)• One person, whose continuation is crucial to the RP, neglects to post.
B(cont.)• Thread dies, as it is impossible to continue the thread.

This seems to be the case for most threads (that I have seen) die.
Thoughts?

I'm getting very annoyed by this.Sometimes some people dislike another player so they don't post anymore.Who cares if you dislike them. You joined the thread so just do it.

'Cept you, your the only one who has problems with other people Annie.

But the real problem is commitment, after all the thread creator shared there story for a reson and so when people stop posting it annoys me.

Thats my point people have just left.

Annie I was just saying you have a tendency to take something the wrong way and go off in a huff for no reason at all... If you leave me might actually do some RP's here without your PM RPs.....

Moderators, could you lock this due to the fact some are getting very heated in it.

People, please, indont know or care who started this but unless we stop it's going to end in infractions and a thread locking. Please get back on topic. I admit that I was once a culprit, so was Annie, MoW, and hell, I think so was FC. I even think Johann.

The thing is we have all done this at least once. But people, if you don't wanna RP anymore, kill off your character.

I just told Annie to calm down... eh...

I forgot, I was supposed to kill your german guy in that D-Day thread.

Well, I abandoned the one Russian thread, the one with the Socialist vs. the Nationalists, because I just wasn't feeling it anymore. The other ones I left, were because there weren't any other posters. But, what annoys me the most is when somebody will post a character, and never make another post, or just one post, and even that's just like, I'm nowhere near anybody else, keep going, and give me a way to enter. I feel everybody here, myself included of course, needs to have more initiative to follow through on RPs, and not join it if you feel like you won't post. There are some great RP threads out there, some are still salvageable, if people work on it. Also, if you're going to be gone for the weekend, or a week, or another period of time longer than a night, please post it so we know to take proper measures to keep RPs going that you're in, but won't post in anymore. In fact, I think there should be a sticky thread for that purpose. Listing your future absences.

I do start a RP then leave. I used to be a very active RPer on here. But I left, having problems and being very busy. I'm trying to come back, but can't make any promises.

cleaned up thread...on topic people.

Senokai, part of the issue for me to continue RPing in a thread is the fact that a lot of times people leave the story in a place that should be continued from their perspective. When that happens, I can't think of any way to keep the story going. I do agree that key people leave at bad times quite often. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to rectify that?

I'd say ONE solution is to have their character surrendered (to whom? Hell if I know.) after a period... Oh say five days if they do not give a reason to it AND it is crucial for them to post.

Deleted User - 819397

That's a good idea, but the question is raised as to who obtains their character...I've got nothing on that end...good idea though, Senokai...anyone else have an addition to his idea or something else to work with?

DeletedUser

I would say either Regal or the person who is most active ON THE SURRENDERED RPER'S SIDE to be given the character.

Deleted User - 819397

I'll take characters only if people feel that's ok. I am the moderator here, but I don't want to flex my authority unless people feel that it's the best solution. Senokai's other proposal as to the most active person on their side taking it over. Another thing I could do is PM the person and ask if they're done with that RP. If they are, I could always take them over for one post and have them killed in a spectacular way...just a thought.

DeletedUser

Or what about once you join a thread you should stay at it until it dies

There's no way to enforce that...I like the idea, but isn't that kind of the responsibility you take when you start in the first place? My thoughts are if we all agree to do that, it'll work...

im a bit old for rpg's
but i still know most of it all,
maybe one day i will return to my kingdom..

anyways, people are people, you devide people up by certain categories, some are brilliant at documentation, others are good with the gab (speech) some are more self reliant, others are helpful,,, all these categories give weakness and strength to the diverse people,,the same as if,,are you left brained or right brained.
some people come up with brilliant ideas, but after a while doze off and are very easily distracted.
then you have the problems of real life issues, so some people would like to commit, but cant due to time

about fighting and arguing,,,to date i have only seen one real issue on this forum that should have been dealt with..
all the rest is feeble bicker and wise cracks ..pot shots and other.
at most,,,the people in this forum are pretty good...just a few odd balls need to have there wings clipped and post LESS.

in truth, when i monitor (over see, look, inspect, i don't see a problem with the guests and the players)

its a rough idea, but i will post a game one day to see whats its all about,,one thing i know for certain is that this site need a dice role key...

DeletedUser

I attempted to solve that with Left 2 Die and it's "dungeon master" roleplay system. It was also designed to curb godmodding.

DeletedUser11019

dunno, im new to this style of dungeon master thing, were members add onto the next chapter of the story, sems pretty interesting and in it self less intensive on one person.

but do you all need dice in the forum? they always handy.
