The sheet can be divided into 5 strips; thus it takes 4 cuts to separate the strips (not the other edges, of course)

It takes a bit more than 80 seconds to finish.
Explanation: Elf needs to cut 4 times to get 5 strips. Each one takes 20 sec, but he needs to return to start the next one (that is why more than 80 : ) )

well...i hope i'm not that stupid but the answer should be a minute and 40 seconds

not sure what explanation to provide though, you just cut 5 strips from a square...unless there's errors, but the question doesn't specify that
however you put it it's the same answer though...attached a pic :lol:

You can cut 5 strips of 2cm x10cm in total from the wrapping paper sheet of 10cm x 10cm, it will hence take 4 x 20sec to have 5 strips since the last strip doesn't need to be cut. The answer is hence 80 seconds!

It will take him 4x20 seconds to cut the entire paper into strips so 80 seconds. The reason is takes him 4 tries is that a strip of 10cm cut into 2cm is 5 mini-strips but there is no need to cut the last one so only 4 cuts are needed.

In order to cut 10cmx10 cm into 2 cm wide straps elf must make 4 cuts (at 2cm,4cm,6cm,8cm).
If one cut takes 20 seconds then total time is 4x20seconds resulting into 80 seconds (1minute and 20 seconds)

There are 5 strips at the end of cutting.
If it takes 20 seconds to cut A STRIP (one strip and not a cut) then calculation is following.
5x20 seconds resulting into 100 seconds (1 minute and 40 seconds).

Difference with time calculation from above is that with last cut elf gets 2 strips with one cut.

10cm x 10cm sheet, 2cm x 10cm strips therefore we can obtain a total of 5 strips with just 4 cuts
4 cuts = 80 seconds

a 10cmx10cm sheet provides 5 strips 2 cm wide, needing 4 cuts. Each cut last 20s therefore to cut a sheet completely into strips it takes the poor littele elf 80s

Each sheet can be cut into 5 strips.
5x20 secs= 100 seconds for an elf to cut a sheet into strips.

wisecrack: if the elf were riding a jaguar, she would go 371% faster :D

Starting with a 10 cm(w) x 10 cm(L) sheet, you can cut 5 stripes of 2 cm(w) x 10 cm(L) out of the sheet. 5 strips times 20 seconds means 100 seconds total for one sheet. So answer is 1 minute and 20 seconds to cut one sheet into strips.

2X2X2X2X2 2 - size, X - strip
4 strips of 20 seconds each - answer 1 minute 20 seconds or 80 seconds

Sheet is 10 x 10 = 100 square cm, and each sheet is 2 x 10 = 20 square cm, so each sheet can be devided into 100 / 20 = 5 strips.
However, on the last cut u get both the 4th and the 5th strip, so u need 4 cuts in total to cut the sheet completely.
Since each cut takes 20 seconds, 4 cuts would take 4 x 20 = 80 seconds to complete.
So the answer is 80 seconds!

If he has to make 2x10cm strips from 10x10cm that means he can make 5 strips, as in on lenght he needs whole length for 10cm long strips, and on other side he can make 10/2=5 strips. If he needs 20 seconds for every strip it takes him 100 second to cut sheet.

2x10 = 20 cm2 of strip of wrapping, 10x10 = 100cm2 total sheet. 100cm2/20cm2 = 5 strip maximum from single sheet. 20x5 = 100 seconds =>1 minute 40 seconds to elf get 5 strip from single sheet.

we have 5 strip from 10x10, but elf do 4 cuts. with the last cut, he makes 2 strips
4х20sec=80sec
