Adeste fideles (in French : « Accourez, fidèles... » ) is a traditional Christian hymn in Latin sung during Christmas time and which dates back to the 18th century. Its attribution is debated but the music and the words seem due to the Englishman John Francis Wade (born in 1710 or 1711 and died in 1786), copyist and teacher of Catholic music, Jacobite exiled in Douai in the north of France; at least the oldest manuscripts dating from 1750/1751 are in his hand and signed by him but the composition would perhaps go back to the years 1743/1745
