In the tradition, an ornamental pickle is placed on a Christmas tree as one of the Christmas decorations. On Christmas morning, the first person to find the pickle on the tree would receive an extra present from Santa Claus or would be said to have a year of good fortune.

The Christmas pickle is a lesser-known Christmas tradition for some Americans. A Christmas tree decoration in the shape of a pickle is hidden on a Christmas tree, with the finder receiving either a reward or good fortune for the next year. There are a number of different origin stories attributed to the tradition, including an origination in Germany. This theory has since been discounted, and it is now thought to be a German-American tradition created in the late 19th century.

In the American tradition

In a strange, even crazy tradition, Americans are used to decorating their Christmas tree, among other ornaments, with a glass one with the shape and color of a pickle!
This is usually the last ornament caught on the branches of the Christmas tree, and the first child to find it on Christmas morning, well fed in the green tree, has the privilege of opening the first wrapping of gifts brought overnight by Santa Claus (Santa Claus). to receive a gift in addition to others or to be blessed, it is said, with good luck in the coming year.
Perhaps even more strange is that it is not known for sure how this tradition came about. There are some hypotheses, but they seem fanciful, contradicted by reality.
The pickled cucumber ornament bears the German name "die Weihnachtsgure," and some believe it is an old German symbol that adds a touch of legend and humor to the holiday and Christmas tree. The bottom line is that the Germans have never heard of Christmas cucumbers !

In Germany only 2% know this tradition ... so the origin is not really known

In parts of the USA, a glass ornament in the shape of a pickle is secretly placed in the Christmas tree. The first child to find this pickle on Christmas morning gets a special treat or gets to open the first gift!

The Christmas pickle is a holiday tradition that involves adults hiding a pickle ornament somewhere within the branches of your Christmas tree and awarding the first gift, an extra gift, or a year of good fortune (traditions vary) to the kid who finds it first on Christmas morning.
