I don't care if Barack is....whatever he is (scientists can't figure out ). Either way, why did we actually ELECT Obama to office? He promised change and hope. What CHANGE was he talking about? What HOPE was he giving? Take that into account.

Obama promised far more than he can possibly be delivered. Within two years of him going into office he will have a lower approval rating than W has now.

Also I am interested in what large mistakes we are still making in America?

american children are brought up to believe that their country is better than any other country in the world. they are taught that it is perfectly fine to massacre an entire continent to save a single American citizen (this hasn't happened yet, but similar things have. give it time.). the way children are taught like this reminds me of the Hitler Youth of Nazi germany.

Americans are amost all either obese, highly prejudiced, or religiously fundamentalist. or idiots. you honestly think that electing a half-black president clears you of centuries of treating african- and native americans like a lesser race? it took you just two ammendments to your constitution to allow citizens to own guns, but it took thirteen to abolish slavery; 15 to allow all races to vote; and 19 to allow women to vote!

You continue to use the death penalty, which no truly developed country should. I have seen many examples of how Americans think that much more humane countries such as the UK continue to hang or decapitate people. This is not the case - the USA is one of very few developed countries which still kills criminals.

And you operate Guantanamo Bay, where prisoners can leave all hope of basic human rights behind. This is one of the most sick and disgusting places on earth. But no, America is truly the land of the free(!)

I would support almost every country in the world before I support the USA. Need any more proof?

The worst part is that when you read this post, you will consider it an act of JEALOSY. I assure you that here in Ireland, or indeed the rest of the world, we have absolutely NO sense of jealosy toward cruel and backward countries such as yours.

I think much of this comes from the news and from school, where they show you things that are supposed to make you feel like Americans are better, but they are on equal ground to everyone else. We might have an easier time getting to where we need to be because education and money, sadly.

You have to consider, as sad as it is, that most of the founders were white, old men who owned slaves. That was the dominating force in this country for years, and it still is, since I know I'm looked down upon a little as a woman, and if I was black it would be even worse.

The conservative older people are still majorly ruling the country. I would abolish the death penalty if I could, but being a fifteen year old girl, all I can do it rally and protest, do all I can, but I can't vote.

Guantanamo Bay is disgusting, as well as the Patriot act, puppy mills, Clean Air act, need I go on?

And I wish I lived somewhere like Ireland. I'm jealous of you.

It's people like you who I feel will pull America up to truly being the superpower it claims to be. I wish you the best of luck! :D

I think an honest look at most of the "first world", "developed" nations will show the same kind of history of racism, sexism, colonisation, crimes against humanity etc, as the USA does. And government is the seat of power, so it it will always be populated by those who have something to hold onto. And if they didn't have it when they got elected well, to be VERY simplistic... power corrupts. You can't create some kind of noble, righteous institution from inside a system which will always be bogged down by its history. And institutions by their very nature are amoral at best. Government (and law) will always move more slowly that community sentiment, even democratic government. And that's just they way it is.

As for "america bashing", (some) Americans make themselves a target of other, er, "free" nations by calling themselves the "leader of the free world" and "the most powerful nation in the world". Obviously, neither of those things are true and it is natural for people to object to such ridiculous claims. When American political rhetoric gets over the fact that they made a shedload of money from their late involvement in WWII and acknowledges that their position in the world is as just one flawed sovereign nation amongst many, the rest of the world's hackles will go down.

But that doesn't mean the rest of the world won't continue to criticise the USA's human rights record or international & domestic policy because we live in a global world. If America doesn't want to leave itself open to international scrutiny, it needs to go back to isolationism and shut up. But we all know that isn't going to happen so the only thing America (or any other player on the world stage) can do is swallow its pride and take the lumps it deserves.

Edited to add: Or, to use sexist language I am entirely comfortable with: It needs to stop crying "jealousy" like a spoilt child and stand up and be a man. ;)

Does America have problems ? sure it does and plenty of them but i love her anyway and wouldent live anwhere else . Americas power doesent just come from its Military but its economy as well . California alone could be the 10th largest economy in the world(even though its in shambles). I dont think anybody thinks America is perfect but that doesent mean they cant be proud of it. Say what you will about america i really dont care but dont expect me to join in.

Lorgos, it is perfectly reasonable to like your country, to like the people and landscape and the lifestlye and the culture. I like my country too, and it is very similar to the US in terms of history and recent politics.

If you want, you can even like your government too. ;)

But there is a difference between "country" and "nation" and when people criticise one, that doesn't mean they are criticising the other. Anyone who confuses the two and gets personally affronted by or defensive about criticisms of their nation (and I'm not suggesting you do) is just begging for worse government. All a nation is is an arbitrary political construct. If people think nation is the same as cultural identity, the government gets to use the propaganda of "national pride" against both its own citizens and the rest of the world. Historically, that is definitely not something to be desired.

As for the American economy, I think if you are suggesting it is in any way exceptionally powerful, you've been sold a bill of goods. And I would have said the same, even before the recent "financial crisis". Again, that idea that is a remnant from the post-WWII period.

US GDP might be huge, but so is its national debt. In fact its debt is currently about 70% of its GDP (from memory), with a significant part of that foreign-owned. And the rest of the world is getting reluctant to lend your government money. That isn't power: That is a house of cards.

My only point on thew economy is that people dont take into account what America gives back when they criticize it.

Do you mean in terms of foreign aid?

I would be wary of regarding any nation's foreign aid budget as some kind of generosity. A significant proportion of US foreign aid, for example, goes to middle income countries, not countries in need, and the last time I checked, nearly all of it was dependent on the nations receiving it using it to buy US products & services. In other words, most of what the US supposedly spends on helping others actually goes back into its own coffers.

I'm not singling America out as a bad guy for this - Most nations' foreign aid budgets are determined by self interest, even if not so blatantly as the US.

But even if we ignore the self-interest part altogether, America still doesn't stand out for its generosity. Yes, the US gives the most in a dollar figure but proportionally (ie; % of GDP) it pretty much sucks. The "most generous nation in the world" line is empty rhetoric (and propaganda) as well.

I don't dislike America and I'm not saying it is ****e. The reason I am pointing this out is because from what outsiders see it looks like most Americans *believe* their nation is the greatest/most powerful and *believe* that this gives them some kind of moral imperative to lead the world. And because that it what gets seen, non-Americans think Americans are gullible at best and dangerous at worst.

WheneverI hear that phrase "leader of the free world", I wonder what it is based on.

Strongest economy? No.
Most generous? No.
Best educated? No.
Best healthcare? No.
Lowest Poverty? No.
Best social justice? No.
Etcetera, etcetera, etcetera...

Again, I don't dislike America. I don't think it is any better or any worse than most nations. As you said, it has its good and its bad. And I actually really like Americans, even if you guys do talk too loudly. ;) All I'm saying is that until America stops talking (and acting) as though it is better than every other nation, even its friends are going to be offended by its arrogance.

The Most “Human” Right of All
by Walter Williams, syndicated journalists

Many of the staunchest advocates of “human rights” heap scorn and abuse on a very fundamental right – to private property. While advocating human rights in the abstract, they champion rent control, anti-condominium conversion laws, minimum wage laws, and other assaults on private property. Some of these people even view property rights as being in conflict with human rights and place a higher value on the latter – failing to see the elemental truth that no society can guarantee freedom to its citizens unless it respects some notion of personal property.
It’s starting to realize how dependent other basic rights are upon the protection of property rights. Take freedom of the press. How significant would our constitutional guarantee of freedom of the press be if the government were the sole owner of all the printing presses and newsprint in the country? The right of freedom of the press is predicated upon the right to private property – at least the newsprint, press, and ink. What happens to the right to peaceably assemble or to worship if every building, meeting place, or outdoor area is designated “public property”?
Under natural law, individuals own themselves. From this it follows that an individual has the right to any material goods he produces and to dispose of these goods as he sees fit. But this right is violated when the government “redistributes” income. Politicians say that all Americans have the right to food, shelter, and decent medical care. But what they are really saying is that some people have the right to take my money, through coercion, and give it to others. I would like to know: Under what interpretation of “human rights” do some people have the right to take what another man has produced?
Human rights” are property rights. Property rights are human rights. The two are inexorably intertwined. When the state coerces parents to send their children to schools not of their own choosing, human rights are violated. When government inflates the currency so that hardworking Americans can no longer maintain a decent standard of living, it is a violation of human rights. When the government forces firms to hire people that they otherwise would not hire, it is a violation of human rights. One can easily expand the list.

The Propaganda of Liberal Democrats: Socialism

Change! This is the most recent slogan that has been thrown at the American people. Like all promises given by liberal politicians, the meaning of this one too is unknown. It means nothing, and the people who believe it can only explain it as a “change” in administration. This slogan is nothing more than a word, used to rally the emotions of a crowd, for that is the basis for liberalism – emotions.

Love is the supposed face of American democratic liberalism. However, this love is only extended to you if you conform with their doctrines of liberalism. If you do not, you could be labeled a whole variety of names – capitalist pig, baby killer, warmonger, or a homophobe to name a few. You see, you must conform to the liberal’s point of view or be silent. Otherwise, by speaking about controversial issues you might be committing a hate crime. So much for the equality that they cry is one of their most important concerns.

Speaking of equality, the liberal democrat believes that equality is to be extended to every one – sodomites and terrorists included, Christians and unborn babies excluded. If any sect speaks against sodomy they are labeled intolerant and, ironically, the liberals will biome intolerant of the “religious fanatics.” These “religious fanatics” are, of course, Christians; and everything directly and indirectly related to Christianity – the ten commandments, evangelism, the national motto, the pledge of allegiance, and prayer to our LORD in schools and Congress – must be removed from the public view.

Terrorists, they believe, are to be given full American rights in a court trial; however, they have already decided that all conservative republicans ought to be jailed.

Women are supposedly underprivileged too. According to liberal democrats, somewhere in the constitution it says that women have the right to kill their unborn babies. It is not surprising that the liberal democrat would take this stand, for feminism is almost synonymous with liberalism. This assertion should not be argued with for the facts are evident. Feminism decries all male authority or superiority – in the home, church, workforce, army, and politics. There is no god. According to evolution the woman came before the man.

The theory of evolution is the basis for many other liberal ideas as well. If there is no god, then there are no moral codes to live by. Thus, we can kill the young and old, lust after whomever we wish, and do what ever we want “as long as we don’t hurt anybody.” Of course, “as long as we don’t hurt anybody” has to be defined as “as long as we don’t hurt other liberal democrats,” for the young, elderly, and conservative republicans should be disposed of.

You might disagree that liberal democrats are so intolerant of other view points, and that they believe the world should be rid of dissidents. They proclaim themselves to be warriors of equality. So do all other socialists – yes, that is what liberal democrats are. Socialism requires absolute harmony in political thought – an impossible goal. However, socialists are deluded by their corrupt evolutionary view that man can be perfected. Opposing views are not allowed; only the established views of the socialistic party are allowed.

Socialists work at a national level, but their goal is global. This is why the liberal democrats so violently hates war. Ironic. They believe that all of mankind’s problems can be conquer red without killing the people that we could be taxing. That’s right, if we tax away all of our money we will all be the same; and, therefore, free of greed – the factor to which they attribute war. This is the twisted thinking of a socialist.

What will they do with all of our money which they take through taxation? Well, unfortunately for them, it won’t be that much money that they take – a people who cannot improve their own paycheck are not hardy workers. Nevertheless, from the large percentage of your little income that they take, you will be promised “free” healthcare, “free” retirement fund, “free” income for the handicap and “mentally instable” (e.g. people on “free” psychiatric drugs), and “free” education. However, you will not receive quality service for your money, for the doctor and teacher who works for the government are guaranteed no competition to take their clients away and, thus, do not strive to do their best to please you, the taxpayer/client.

The socialists will not stop at taking control of our hospitals and schools. Through laws and regulations they will control all of our businesses as well, for they accuse capitalism of being selfish greed. Of course, now the government will receive any profits made from the businesses, but somehow this is not considered evil. Maybe this is so because government-run businesses do not create profits but create debts. However, socialists never concede that government-run businesses are debt-creating, low-productivity enterprises. They do not admit this because they blame the problem on greedy workers who need to sacrifice their own desires for the better good of the state.

Capitalism allows people to advance and, thus, creates inequality amongst our pocketbooks. This “inequality,” they teach, is the cause of all of the problems in the world. They claim that man is naturally good but becomes corrupted by society. By submitting to all of tenants of socialism, their propaganda declares that mankind can reach a state called utopia. Utopia – a state of no war, greed, hate; a state of peace, contentment, and peace. Man has again tried to reach heaven by his own means; however, this time it is an atheistic heaven in our sin cursed world.

The “free” education system is a perfect place for socialistic liberal democrats to foist their propaganda. Here, evolution is taught as a fact. Socialistic government is proclaimed to be the savior of the people. Morals that might be taught by parents are disregarded, for the goal of socialists is to raise brainwashed socialists not respectful children.

The changes that socialism requires have been tested time and time again and have been proven to not work. Socialism tries to replace the human need for religion with service to the state, but a faith in human government and human perfection will prove hopeless.

Think for yourself you unoriginal *******. I refuse to read stuff that people copy and paste.

Then you are hopeless. People need to read what is learned and think together. Independantely is something missing in America, but without grop thinking and learning from documents of America, we will never be able to show them that they have broken their laws and are corrupt. Studying and learning are key in everything.
