Guide to Dueling

Best Gear

Note: Named Pants and Belts are not included in this list as they are rare and hard to find. Also note that this revised guide is only a trial run of Hot'N'Sexy's original guide. I will be asking Duduie if she approves of this updated guide. If anyone finds anything wrong with this version, they are free to contact me and provide the details of whatever errors I may have made in writing this version of Hot'N'Sexy's dueling guide, and then I will try my best to fix it up. I hope this works out for everyone!

Melee Duelers:
Headgear: Fancy Felt Hat, Fancy Leather Hat
Clothing: Fancy Dress Coat, Flannel Shirt, Fancy Shirt
Shoes: Fancy Riding Boots, Fancy Work Shoes
Neckband: Brown Shawl, Mexican Bandana, Golden Buffalo
Pants: Brown Jeans, Brown Leather Pants, Fancy Army Pants
Belt: Black Pistol Belt, Fancy Eagle Belt, Green Pistol Belt

Range Duelers:
Headgear: Fancy Felt Hat, Fancy Leather Hat
Clothing: Fancy Coat, Black Coat, Fancy Dress Coat
Shoes: Brown Boots, Fancy Boots
Neckband: Fancy Bowtie, Blue Shawl, Black Shawl, Golden Buffalo
Pants: Black Leg Guards, Brown Indian Pants, Fancy Linen Pants
Belt: Black Pistol Belt, Brown Cartridge Belt, Fancy Skull Belt

Other Items:
Walking Stick + Fancy Dress Coat (Recommended for melee duelers)
Tequila + Donkey (Recommended for melee duelers)
Walking Stick
Death's Scythe
Fireworks Rocket

For pants, you could also use: Fancy Leg Guards if you're a melee dueler, since it gives a decent Strength bonus, in addition to its hefty Reflex and Tactics bonuses. Or you could use Fancy Linen Pants, since it has an equal amount of Shooting and Vigor. But its Strength bonus makes it a little more appropriate for melee duelers. Fancy Soft Leg Guards can also be used for duelers who want or need a lot of extra points in Health Points, Dodging, and Aim. And for those of you who cannot use the Fancy Soft Leg Guards, the Blue Soft Leg Guards are almost as good as the Fancy Soft Leg Guards.

For belts, you could also use: A Fancy Plaid Belt or a Fancy Fine Belt (For melee duelers) or a Black Buffalo Belt or a Green Buckled Belt (For range duelers).

Skill Distribution

Skill Points Descriptions
Vigor: Increases damage inflicted with a melee weapon
Toughness: Lowers your opponent’s damage
Health Points: No effect in duels, but more HP helps you survive
Dodging: Increases the chance of dodging a shot
Reflex: Lowers your opponent’s damage
Aim: Increases the chance of successfully landing a shot
Shooting: Increases damage inflicted with a range weapon
Appearance: Lowers your opponent's value when attacking
Tactics: Lowers your opponent’s attack value when defending

*The following skill distribution statistics are for dueling and not for jobs.

*Please notice I have provided 2 recommendations for each regular dueler build.

*Skills that are not one of the “main” skills are not listed for each build.

*Attribute/Skills Points received from quests are not included.

*Dueling gear is NOT included in the calculations! The following numbers would be your "base" stats.

*The following assumes you have the best possible gear for your build.

*Please be aware that some builds are probably better than others. The following just lists various proper builds, not which one is better than another.

*You don't need to follow the numbers exactly as they are. Being in the general range should be fine.

*To calculate based on my percentages, you need to take your level and multiply it by 3 to get your total SP, and take your level for the total AP. Then multiply those numbers by the percentages I suggested to determine how many points you should have in each skill.

Character Classes: Dueler vs. Soldier

Dueler Advantages:

  • The speed on the map is increased by 10%. - Who Cares
  • The motivation for dueling raises faster. It is increased 20% faster. - Big Deal
  • You receive 10% more money in a duel. - ooo 1 more dollar!
  • You can perform duels within a radius of 15 minutes without traveling there. - Not to bad.

Soldier Advantages:

  • For each skill point given to the skill health points you receive an additional 5 health points for your character. - Thumbs Up
  • The level needed to use a weapon is lowered by 3 levels. - Hell Yes!
  • In duels you receive a bonus of 50% to your tactic skill. - It's Christmas!
Soldier Class > Dueler Class

How to defeat Resistance Duelers (Getting Updated)

To defeat a resistance dueler:

  • Have very high vigor/shooting, probably at least double your opponent’s toughness or reflex. No one knows the damage formula.
  • Have high dodge and hope to dodge each round, but make sure to have enough aim and shooting/vigor so you can hit at least once when attacking. When defending, hope they miss every round.
  • Have high tactics if defending. High enough tactics would potentially cause a resistance dueler to miss every round.
  • Become a resistance dueler yourself. The jobs are fairly decent. By level 70, Luck jobs include Firefighter, Evangelizing, Transport Ammo, Trading with Indians, Grave Robber. Money jobs include Drilling for Oil, Silver Mining, Iron Mining. Experience jobs include perhaps Constructing Manor-House, Constructing Ranch House, Evangelizing.

The following are alternate set-ups derived from the the original builds in the first post. Some of these builds are just variations of the above, while others are actually better. I have made minor notes after each build to indicate the gains/losses compared to the original. Also, please be aware it's assumed you picked the soldier class for the builds that use appearance/tactics. Please keep in mind that these builds are only guides to a strong dueling set-up. It's not necessarily advised that you copy them exactly as they are. They will guide you to where your skills should be, and you need to adjust them on your own based on your situation and/or your gear.

Dueling FAQ’s

Please read Denisero’s dueling starter guide for basic information.

How is the dueling level calculated?

What is the most important dueling skill?
There isn’t one skill that stands alone as most important. Dueling requires a combination of skills.

Can I duel a banned player?
Yes, until that player’s account is deleted.

What happens to me when I get KO’d?
You lose all of your money and energy. You are automatically returned to your town to sleep in the highest level hotel.

What’s better? Melee or Range?
Neither one is better. Both are equal. It’s up to players’ opinions.

Are the left hand weapons (guns) used in duels?
No. A left handed weapon (gun) is used only for fort battles.

Can other players duel me?
Yes. As long as you are in a town, not sleeping, and not KO’d, and not at a fort after signing up for a battle, you can be dueled.

How do I avoid being dueled?
Leave town or go on 48 hour KO.

Someone dueled me, beat me, and gained 0 Exp. How is that possible?
The player who dueled you is a zero motivation dueler, which means they duel for no experience. They can duel you because with 100% motivation, they would gain experience from beating you.

I’m in a town, but I can’t duel other players. Is this a bug?
No, you need to have the mortician constructed in your town.

I want to duel, but when I look at another town’s saloon, it says “duel not possible for 48 hours” next to everyone’s name! What’s going on?
You are KO’d, so you cannot duel anyone and will see the same message in every single saloon until you come off of 48 Hour KO.

Is there such a thing as dueling etiquette in-game, where i'm not allowed to duel workers/adventurers?
No. You can duel whoever you want.

I'll add more as I find more or if you know of any, please post. Thank you.

It's good to see H&S's guide back up. Once the 'Best Gear' section is thoroughly fleshed out and the dueling build skill distributions are corrected, it will be a thing of beauty.

Red.. ranged duelers.. u need to upgrade to include attack attire and defensive attire..
most of what u have stated are defensive attire..
For eg.. if i am an appearance/dodge heavy then i would think about using..Fancy cotton jacket..black felt hat.. and sometimes fancy riding shoes..

and in pants fancy soft leg guards are priceless.. fancy army pants while attacking..

DeletedUser

I don't have a melee dueler, but as a ranged one, I can see you forgot to include fancy soft leg guards and fancy eagle belt. Which are not rare and in some dueler's point of view might be considered the best.
Also, try to update the class bonuses. Duelers have the 15 mins radius bonus that is not included up there.
I'll look and see if there's anything else.
Overall, looks good.

Okay. I shall be editing this periodically to fit the specifications of what everyone here has said, so until then, this version of Hot'N'Sexy's guide will remain as a Beta Version.

DeletedUser

COuld you do us 1 more favor? Because the lvl of great pants and belts are so above others lvl, could you tell us what is good for low lvl dueler?

DeletedUser

I dont see this ever but it seems to work for me... I use the Fancy shoes +Walking stick combo for Attacking as a ranged dueler together I get +19 Appearance, +9 Reflex, +2 Strength, +2 Dexterity.
I don't have the fireworks rocket so the walking stick is the only beneficial thing to put there, what shoes would be recommended for attacking as a ranged dueler other than that? Sure;y I don't see this combo very often cause there is better out there, but what?

Duduie, I did include the Fancy Eagle Belt on there. And in my opinion, the Fancy Eagle Belt can be used for either melee or ranged duelers. And I have updated the character class bonuses.

HotnSexy guide its only for newbie duelers, that will probably end in top 100 duelers but not even in top 15 (first page). Everyone knows melee dodge/aim goes with pure charisma, that resistance duelers can be beat by specialized anti tankers consisting in appearance, dodge resistance duelers, ranged regular go for 80%+ charisma and way more tactics/appearance for dodging as aim and dodging are random. Don't read too much guides, it is better what every dueling skill does and experiment on your own characters. I have been top 5 dueler in w1, w6, don't think I am speaking just to speak and badmouth, I know secrets shouldn't be revealed but day after day there are fewer duelers remaining in each world so growing as a dueler is a pain in the ass.

what about fancy army pants and brown jeans? surely two of the best sets of duelling pants before the fancy soft leg guards??

and what about fancy shirt / black bandana for the aggressor in a range duel?

DeletedUser

Just started my first dueler a little while ago. Figured I go for range dueler. My question with the guides listed above is that no AP/SP are given to Strength/health... won't that make you an easy KO at the higher levels?

DeletedUser

As a ranged dueler, is a total waste to put ap in strength and sp in health. You can put a few SP, but won't help much. Your defense is to block hits. You won't be an easy KO if you keep your defense gear on at all times and have a good defense (meaning you are not all offense). It would only make sense to invest in HP as a soldier. But as a ranged soldier, you base yourself more on tactics then on HP.

So, how is this upgraded guide working for everyone? Is there any way we can add a poll to this thread somehow?

DeletedUser

The thread needs to be created with a poll by a moderator. I cannot ADD a poll now!

For belts, you could also use: A Fancy Plaid Belt or a Fancy Fine Belt (For melee duelers) or a Black Buffalo Belt or a Green Buckled Belt (For range duelers).
Sure dude? the Fancy cartridge belt with 15 aim is much better in both case
